After all, the Fenris jerboa had never found where the light switches were during the two days it'd stayed in Shannon's house.
As Shannon approached from the hallway leading to the bedroom, the Fenris jerboa quickly withdrew the curious look and adopted a trembling, pitiful look.
With a pop, it transformed into a small human form within the barrier. It was a child of about four or five years old.
The adorable boy had big innocent eyes that brimmed with helplessness. He looked up at Shannon and uttered in a slightly trembling voice, "Please don't… Don't kill me."
Shannon paused in her tracks. She raised an eyebrow slightly.
The sound of the passcode lock at the front door echoed through the apartment. The door opened to reveal Benjamin and Kai who'd come down from upstairs after hearing the commotion.
Benjamin knew Shannon intended to lie in wait for the Fenris jerboa and was worried that something might go wrong, so he brought Kai along.
Kai's eyes widened almost instantly. "A kid? No, a juvenile demon!"
This complicated things. Dealing with juvenile demons was tricky.
While Kai was deeply troubled as he stared at the mini demon within the barrier, Shannon's expression remained indifferent. She exerted her spiritual energy and tightened the chains binding the boy.
Then, she commanded in a cold voice, "Show your true human form."
The boy's face contorted in pain as the chains tightened. He begged for mercy. "This is my human form… Please don't kill me…"
His pitiful demeanor pained Kai. Just as he was about to plead on the boy's behalf, Shannon expressionlessly tightened the chains again.
The Fenris jerboa glanced at Kai. Though the latter was underage, he could sense a natural suppression coming from Kai that made him instinctively lower his posture.
For some reason, he sensed an additional oppressive presence nearby. But he attributed it to Kai and wondered if the latter had some powerful demon backing him up.
As the thought crossed his mind, he sighed and plopped to the floor with his chains rattling. Then, he decided to tell them the truth. "I confess!"
Shannon assumed he was about to admit to his involvement in creating fertility pills when the man broke into a gruff exaggerated wail.
"I just ate four bags of your chips, two packs of nuts, three packs of instant noodles, two bottles of milk, and five cans of pet food… I can pay you back. Please don't kill me."
Shannon was utterly speechless. She didn't even know there was this much food in the house.
