"I don't believe that." Yvette then turned to Shannon. "What does their relationship have to do with me?"
Although Travis had kept things on the down low, Yvette had always been aware that her uncle, Landon White, and his family were after the family estate.
With that said, she wasn't convinced that Travis could tackle her by manipulating her assistant alone. She had reached her position today through her own abilities, and she wouldn't lose it because an assistant stabbed her back.
Besides, they weren't in a soap opera. A time-consuming and labor-intensive tactic like this wouldn't guarantee results. No matter how Yvette thought about it, she couldn't envision Travis planning this.
After all, to impress Leonel, he had always been the picture-perfect elite, always putting on a refined and polished front.
He had no reason to sell his looks to seduce an assistant for a bit of information about her. Not to mention, Harper wasn't his type.
"Is there more to it?" asked Yvette.
Shannon looked at her and raised a peace sign. "20 thousand dollars."
Yvette was more than speechless. Her eyes twitched, and she blurted out, "What happened to our deal? Why are you charging me?"
In return, Shannon flashed her a serious look. "I said I'd return you a favor, but I didn't say it'd be free of charge. Besides, it's a rule in mystic arts to get paid for your work."
Her serious demeanor made Yvette burst into an exasperated laugh. She fished out her phone and unhesitantly transferred the fee to Shannon. "Spill."
In the meantime, Harper was on pins and needles, waiting on the side.
Travis began to subtly pursue her. Although he showed her constant care and attention, he never made it obvious in a way that would put her in an awkward position. That was also why their interactions and relationship went unnoticed by Yvette.
What made her truly fall for Travis was when she suddenly had an appendicitis attack just as a hurricane warning was issued six months ago. He braved the storms to find her and took her to the hospital.
As a young woman, Harper naturally felt defeated by his care and thoughtfulness.
"We only started dating about three months ago. During this whole time, I've never once mentioned anything about work, and neither did he." She attempted to make Yvette believe in her.
Yvette appeared noncommittal, while Shannon nodded in agreement. "Because his target has never been Yvette; it's always been you. You may not know this yet, but you and Yvette are related."
