Alex decided to consider the money as buying Zane more life.
Though he hadn't valued Zane much, he'd never been stingy with money. Plus now that Zane possessed the so-called power of words, it seemed even more impressive than Shannon's abilities.
Alex decided to think of it as an investment in Zane.
Perhaps seeing through his thoughts, George said in a serious tone, "Let's do as Shannon suggests. After today, everyone in the circle will know that Zane can talk. If outsiders try to force him to talk, you all must step in to stop them.
"As for his power of words, no one is allowed to reveal even a single word about it."
As he said so, his gaze landed on Alex, who felt his heart tighten and protested loudly, "Dad! He's my son! I'm least likely to spill the beans!"
George withdrew his gaze nonchalantly and continued, "I wasn't talking about you. I'm saying you must not tell Linda either."
Though Linda was Zane's biological mother, she'd never cared about him since he was a child. Now that she was no longer part of the Jensen family, she didn't deserve to know anything.
Alex had first sighed in relief, but he seemed to be in a dilemma after hearing Linda's name. He reluctantly muttered, "Understood."
Linda was abroad, and he hadn't been in much contact with her lately.
Zane had been listening quietly throughout the conversation and never interrupted their plans. These arrangements didn't seem to bother him.
When the crowd scattered away, Zane silently returned to his room.
Hank trailed behind him and watched his thin, frail figure with a complex look in his eyes. After a long pause, he turned and went straight to Shannon on the third floor.
She paused, and her eyes met Hank's as she said, "If you're willing to give it up for him, he can start the soul-nurture immediately."
Hank was startled by her words, and there was a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. He despised Zane for never treating them like family and for sometimes being kinder to outsiders than their parents.
He also resented Zane for never acting like the older brother he was supposed to be. But regardless of all the resentment, Hank wanted Zane to stay in their lives…
The fleet of hesitation lasted for just a second before it was replaced by determination. "If that piece of malachite can help, give it to him."
Though Hank had a gut feeling that Shannon's emerald pendant could help him resolve the Stone Turtle's dreams, the recurring dreams wouldn't matter anymore if the malachite could save Zane's life. He'd never been hurt in any tangible way either.
Hank's tone was firm. Shannon studied him closely before shifting her gaze past Hank's face to behind him. "You heard that, didn't you?"
