Chapter Thirteen
His mother stiffens upon hearing his words.
"Nothing went wrong! You just saw the true colors of Sahaan. Don't think too much into it and go to sleep." She says through gritted teeth leaves him there.
He just nods at his mother, deliberately ignoring his mother’s reaction towards his words.
"Is mom right about Sahaan? Whatever happened should stay in the past. I’m getting married to Tanzeen. I shouldn't think about someone else," He smiles, thinking of Tanzeen.
"She’s much better than Sahaan," He reassures himself.
Is she really? He can hear his heart questioning his decisions.
He shakes his head and sleep evades him.
The next morning, the manor is hustling-bustling in preparations. All of the relatives, maternal and paternal, arrived early to help with the preparations.
Girls are chatting about makeup brands, what to wear, and what would go perfectly with it. While the boys are all over the stage, which is set up in the backyard. Only two days until the marriage ceremony.
The fragrance of flowers, henna, and sweets can be smelled anywhere in the house. The decorations are complete and the guests have arrived.
Sahaan is with grandmother, planning how to stop the marriage.
"Leave everything to me. I know exactly what to do." Her grandmother says to the tensed up Sahaan.
"But grandma, we don’t have a lot of time! Just two days. What can we do in two days?" Her voice is laced with tension.
"Ayesha! With whose permission did you take out these sets?” She angrily asks her eldest daughter in-law.
"Well… I thought that Ahmed’s bride should-” Ayesha was cut off by her mother in law's loud voice.
"You thought wrong!" Grandmother cuts her off.
“You know very well that these sets are for the children of this family, not outsiders,” She hits the floor with her walking stick.
She then calls Sahaan and Isra, telling them to take the sets back into her room.
"From now onward, the gold sets will be with me. There is not need to put them in a safe." She looks at Ayesha in disdain before leaving.
