Christopher and Rosalie finally understood that Cody wanted to take Janice away not just because he didn’t want to stand up for his girlfriend, but because he feared Janice’s identity would be exposed. 

Just moments ago, Cody had thanked Carlos for looking after Janice, blurring the lines and making it seem like Carlos was only stepping in as a favor to Cody, not out of any concern for Janice. 

What a cheeky lad! How dare he bully a young lady of the Quirk family? 

“This is no small matter. This bracelet is priceless and holds significant meaning,” Christopher said with a cold smile. “What? The young master of the Simmons family is so generous that he doesn’t even want to seek justice for his girlfriend?” 

Although Christopher didn’t work at the Quirk Group, his celebrity presence was intimidating. 

Cody’s face turned grim. “It’s just a small issue. Janice won’t mind.” 

“No, it’s not a small issue, and I do mind.” Suddenly, Janice, who had been silent, spoke up. 

Janice raised her head with teary eyes. She looked directly at Cody as if seeing his true colors. “Are you trying to downplay this again, making me swallow my pride? Why do you always do this when I’m bullied? Aren’t you my boyfriend? I don’t expect you to avenge me, but why won’t you even give me justice?” 

When certain oddities were noticed, the long–suppressed grievances finally erupted. 

Janice’s trembling voice made Cody both angry and embarrassed. “Janice, stop it. If you keep being so unreasonable, I won’t care about you anymore!” 

Isabella and the others nearly laughed in 

Carlos frowned and demanded, “Are you crazy? Who’s being unreasonable?” 

Cody’s face turned a variety of colors after being rebuked by Carlos. 

The surrounding students couldn’t help but start whispering 

“Cody probably didn’t want his girlfriend’s misdeeds to get blown up, so he acted this way. It’s Janice–who’s being ungrateful.” 

“Yeah, Janice stole Cecilia’s stuff, and Cody is protecting her. I don’t think Mr. Carlos knows anything about this.” 

“He probably doesn’t. Otherwise, as a teacher, there’s no way he’d protect a thief.” 

Carlos heard the murmurs and was genuinely confused 

What’s going on? Who’s Cecilia? 

Carlos was about to ask when Cody, seemingly realizing something, hurriedly interrupted. 

“Janice, I’m asking you one last time, are you coming or not? My patience has its limits.”

The only consolation was that Janice wasn’t completely blinded by love. She finally saw through the sc*m’s intentions. 

Probably flustered from being exposed, Cody acted angrier, as if Janice had insulted him. 

“Janice, you’d better think carefully before you speak.” Cody’s tone was icy, with a hint of warning. He was still extremely arrogant. “Why would I do that? Do you still consider me your boyfriend?”

Cody meant a lot to her because he came into her life when she was deeply distressed. Cody was like a beam of light in her world. His public confession of love made Janice, who was drowning in self–doubt, feel recognized. 

To her, that was a form of salvation. 

When she learned that she could marry Cody in the future, she was genuinely happy. She thought that marrying Cody would free her from her suffocating family. It didn’t matter if her mother and brother didn’t love her, as long as she had a boyfriend who did.
