A child's voice suddenly ripped through the silence. Ansel cried, "Mom!"
Jordan stared at Sabrina. The side profile captured in the photo Mason had taken was far less shocking than seeing her in person.
It was understandable that Ansel would cry out like that. Jordan hadn't lied to him—Sabrina was still alive! He tried to break free of Jordan's hold and reached out for Sabrina, but she didn't even spare him a glance. She picked Isabel up before turning to head away.
"Mom!" This time, he almost burst into tears. Why was Sabrina ignoring him and holding another child?
The ruckus drew attention to Jordan and Ansel. Some people recognized them and remembered the things they'd done in the past. They started whispering among themselves.
"Aren't they the man and child who betrayed their wife and mother and allowed the homewrecker to usurp her position?"
"How can that child be shameless enough to call another woman his mother?"
"I thought he'd already accepted the mistress as his mother. Oh, wait—I think she was banished abroad."
"It's disgusting."
Ansel heard their criticism and fearfully curled up in Jordan's arms before sobbing. "Dad, I want Mom…"
Jordan's expression turned ugly. In the past, he'd only needed to shoot those people a look to make them shut up. However, that wasn't something he could do anymore. The Faust family had long since fallen from grace. He could only hurry out of the place, feeling humiliated.
Sebastian watched them from a distance without saying anything. Then, he suddenly snorted. "That's the renowned Jordan Faust?"
Sabrina laughed, too. Jordan had been quite the success story when she'd been married to him. When she and Holly had both been in that accident, the news of Jordan and Ansel prioritizing Holly's safety over hers had made the trending topics.
However, at the time, the Faust family had been at the top of the pyramid. It had only taken an hour for them to get the news taken down. All the paparazzi had been forced to shut their mouths. Yet Jordan and Ansel had now been reduced to fleeing a banquet after being criticized.
He'd had too many questions to ask her but couldn't form the words when he'd seen her again.
…
Late that night, Sabrina had already changed into her pajamas and was about to go to sleep with Isabel in her arms. That was when Sebastian came into the room. "Someone's looking for you, Sabrina."
Ansel had gotten a high fever after the shock at the banquet and kept crying for her. And so, Jordan had had no choice but to head to the Lakeworth residence again to look for her.
She bit her lip, looking hesitant. Isabel held her hand, looking scared and unwilling. "Are you going out, Mom?"
Despite the time they'd spent together, she was still afraid of Sabrina abandoning her. That was why she would follow Sabrina everywhere she went.
Sabrina looked at Sebastian hesitantly. Should she go?
