"But let's be clear," Jordan added. "Don't ask too much."
"You made me cry, and I can't even make a big demand? Then I'm not forgiving you," Debra huffed, turning to leave.
He grabbed her arm, hesitating. "Fine, I'm in."
"That's more like it." She patted his head. "I'm gonna get prepared."
Jordan froze. "Prepare for what?"
"My big demand, duh."
Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and Jordan's heart sank. He realized that she had played him once again.
"Debra."
"What?"
"You..."
"What're you gonna do about it?"
Debra stuck out her tongue and made a face. Jordan glared, but there was nothing he could do.
After school, two cars arrived at the gate.
Barton stepped out and spoke to Debra. "Miss Frazier, this one is your ride."
"Did Andrew send you to pick me up?" she asked, glancing at Jordan. "I can ride with Jordan."
"Miss Frazier, it's not your fault."
"It is. I was too stubborn. I swear I won't pick on Jordan anymore. Please don't let Andrew talk to the school about splitting us up, okay?"
They'd grown up bickering and sticking together. Separate classes meant different schedules, no shared classes, and no eating together at the cafeteria.
She didn't want any of that.
"Well, that's not up to me," Barton said, shaking his head. "It depends on Mr. Andrew Potter. You know, once he decides something, he won't change his mind."
"But..."
"If you don't want to switch classes, talk to him yourself."
