The day Debra went into labor, the Potter Mansion buzzed with chaos.
Jordan had a medical team on standby to whisk her to Central Hospital.
Debra got swarmed like a VIP. They'd rehearsed the whole thing a million times, but when the day hit, everyone still freaked out.
Since they'd locked in the delivery date, Debra stayed awake and lucid. At the hospital, she just followed the doctors' orders like a champ.
She eyed the operating table and slowly shut her eyes.
At first, she caught snippets of noise. Then exhaustion took over, and she conked out.
Once again, they went back to that dream.
The garden of the Potter Mansion looked like it did a decade ago. She wandered to the swing set, gave it a nudge, and heard her parents call from a distance.
"Debra, come say hi to Mr. and Mrs. Potter." They waved her over.
This time, it felt different. She knew she was dreaming, and all her memories stayed sharp.
She glanced up at the second-floor study window. It hung open, white curtains fluttering.
The young Andrew leaned there, reading quietly. He sensed her staring and looked down.
He flashed a soft smile, his warm gaze wrapping around her like a blanket.
"Andrew," she called out.
"It's work stuff. I'll be right back," he said, brushing it off.
No one caught the lie, except Theda. She tapped Robert's shoulder. "I'm going to the bathroom."
"Cool." Robert nodded, staying put.
Jordan hung up and turned, only to find Theda behind him.
With her hands behind her back, she said, "Relax. I'm not here to bust you. I knew he wasn't dead."
"How did you figure?"
"He can't let go. There's someone he can't leave behind. Even if he faked his death and lived in the shadows, he'd stick around for her, right?"
