"Obviously," Debra said, cool as ice. "In a spot like this, we wouldn't dare pull a fast one on you, right?"
Enoch grinned, "Good."
Michael walked out, with Erica slung over his shoulder.
"Erica!" Randy called out.
Lara stood beside Michael, covering him.
"Erica!" Randy lunged, but Lara blocked him cold.
"I don't hit girls," Michael growled. "Get out of my way."
"She's right here," Michael said, glancing at Debra. "You want her? Hand over the gemstone."
Debra's grip on the box tightened. She needed a window to save Erica before Enoch clocked the fake.
"Deal," she said, eyeing Erica. "But it's gotta be fair. You hand her over at the same time."
"Fair enough," Michael said, nodding to Lara.
She stepped up and held out a hand. Debra passed her the box. At the same time, Michael dumped Erica into Randy's arms.
Before Randy could relax, Michael whipped out a gun and fired into Erica's chest.
The hall fell dead silent.
Enoch's eyes widened. He opened his mouth, trying to speak, but soon gasped his last breath.
A flood of people stormed into the valley, surrounding the church in an instant. The ten bodyguards by Enoch's side were quickly subdued.
It all happened in a flash and ended in less than a minute.
Debra couldn't believe it was that easy.
"Ouch, that hurt..." Lara groaned from the ground, rubbing her tailbone. "Can we skip me for these assassination gigs next time? This knife is short. How was I supposed to kill him with it?"
"Erica?" Randy stared, stunned.
