Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1397

Thunder rumbled through the fifth-floor room as Juan staggered inside, his clothes drenched in blood.

Jeffrey's gaze remained fixed on the portraits on the wall. "Well? Did she talk?"

When no answer came, he turned and froze. Juan's clothes were a crimson mess. A bloodied knife clattered to the floor between them.

"She's dead," Juan said, his voice glacial.

"What" Jeffrey's composure shattered.

He seized Juan's collar. "I told you to interrogate her, not kill her. Did you get the location of the treasure? Answer me."

Juan's eyes were piercing with clarity. He could see through Jeffrey's every thought.

All of Jeffrey's earlier talk about reuniting the family had been nothing but a facade. The only thing he cared about was the treasure's location. To achieve his goals, Jeffrey would gladly use his own family as pawns.

"You killed Melody, didn't you?" Juan's sudden accusation cut through the tension.

Jeffrey released him, smoothing his jacket.

"You already knew that."

"You've hidden too much from me. Even if I had the coordinates, I'd need insurance."

"What do you want?"

"You're my son. Of course, I trust you." Jeffrey rose, smiling thinly. "But she was family once. I'll pay my respects."

Juan gazed at him. "In her room. If you want to see it, go ahead."

Jeffrey murmured, "Okay. I'll go see her one last time."

Juan narrowed his eyes, knowing Jeffrey didn't believe him.

The stench of iron hung thick in Debra's room. Jeffrey pushed open the door to find her corpse sprawled on the bed—pale as wax, eyes frozen wide, half her face caked in dried blood.

Jeffrey moved closer to prod her shoulder. The wound from the gunshot yesterday remained.
