Arriving at the Houston Mansion, Marion shoved open the door to the study.
The noise startled Caleb, who glared at him. "What are you doing? You scared the hell out of me."
Debra nudged Marion, while Erica dashed to Caleb's side with a big smile.
"It's been ages since I came to see you," she said enthusiastically.
"Don't even try. Every time you show up, there's trouble," he mumbled, glancing at them. "What's the deal?"
Marion placed the three gemstones on the table.
"What's this? Trying to bribe me? Or do you want me to appraise them?" Caleb asked, not taking it seriously.
Then he noticed Marion's solemn expression and adjusted his reading glasses to take a closer look.
His expression changed. He picked up one of them and inspected it carefully.
"Where did you get them?" he asked.
"One was bought at an auction. One was from Melody Nichols. The third one was a wedding gift," Erica explained.
Caleb frowned. "The Nichols family? Why would they have something like this?"
He whipped out his phone and called home. It connected quickly.
"Mom, do we have some kind of heirloom ring? Like a sapphire ring Dad might've given you?" he asked. "No? Are you sure? Look carefully, or ask Dad. Maybe he gave it to a mistress or something."
"You brat, asking for a beating," snarled his mother.
Randy hung up and patted his chest. "Well, my family doesn't have this gemstone."
Erica and Debra stared at him, speechless.
Only Randy would say something that absurd.
