The next morning, I woke up to the sound of Adrian getting dressed for work. I pretended to still be asleep, but I could hear him moving around the room, opening and closing drawers. He didn’t say a word to me–not that I expected him to. It had become our routine. Silence. Avoidance. A marriage only in name.

I cracked my eyes open slightly and watched as he adjusted his tie in the mirror. His expression was unreadable, cold as ever.
