From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 73

He was certain now—there was nothing he’d done wrong today.

If it wasn’t today, it had to be yesterday.

Lance Carter trailed after her, trying to match her pace. “Was it because I got home late last night? Did I wake you up?”

Adelina Lane didn’t even bother to look over her shoulder. She stopped only when she reached the living room and spotted two small slices of cake sitting on the coffee table.

“There’s this new bakery at The Galleria. My students say it’s amazing. I was out there for dinner, so I picked up a couple slices for you to try.” Lance’s voice was soft as he leaned in.

Now he had her attention. Adelina picked up a slice and settled onto the couch. “Alright, I’ll give it a shot.”

Lance plopped down beside her, looking like he was bursting to share a secret. “Guess what I saw while I was buying the cake.”

Why did that sound so familiar?

Jasper Lane had used that same tone the other day, dangling a secret in front of her.

Could it be…?

Adelina paused, staring at Lance with a complicated look.

But after a second, she shook off the ridiculous thought.

Olivia Bennett was pregnant now, and there was no way Ethan Carter would drag her out after a long day just to run around town.

Besides, if it was anything as big as that, Lance would be way more excited. This wasn’t the energy of a man who had major news.

She let it go and opened the cake box, asking, almost absentmindedly, “So, what is it?”

Lance crossed his legs, chin pointing at her, refusing to spill. “It’ll blow your mind. Just guess.”

Nothing could surprise her more than Olivia Bennett’s pregnancy announcement. Unless Ethan and Olivia suddenly produced a grandkid and called her ‘Grandma,’ nothing else really mattered.

“Not guessing,” she said, taking a bite of cake.

It was tangy and sweet—honestly delicious. Better than most of those fancy, big-name bakeries.
