Hearing her talk like that, and after spending some time together, Olivia Bennett could tell she wasn't a bad person. Her concern seemed totally genuine—nothing fake about it.
Olivia shook her head. “No, I’m fine.”
“That’s good,” Adelina Lane replied, relief flooding her face.
Davina Ford chimed in, “How about I help you pick out some photos, sis? Ms. Bennett, you should take a break.”
Adelina’s eyes lit up. She nodded eagerly. “Great idea. You go ahead and rest, let Aileen here help me with the photos.”
Olivia smiled at Davina. “Thanks, I appreciate it.”
Davina shrugged. “No problem at all.”
Once Olivia finally sat down and relaxed, Adelina seemed to settle too, turning her focus to the photo selection. Or, at least, she tried to. Most of the time, her eyes kept drifting back to Olivia, worry etched all over her face. She barely glanced at the photos, just hurriedly picked out a few and returned.
Olivia had just finished the last bite of her sandwich when Adelina reappeared, photos in hand. Adelina’s gaze zeroed in on the now-empty takeout box, her brow furrowing in concern. “That’s all you’re having for lunch?”
Olivia shook her head, smiling. “No, that was just a snack. They thought it looked good and grabbed it for me. Real lunch is coming later.”
But Adelina’s frown didn’t budge. “So what are you having for your actual lunch?”
“Someone from home is bringing it over,” Olivia assured her.
Adelina raised an eyebrow. “Carter—uh, your husband?”
