From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 31

He’d lied to her for so long—even going as far as to hand her over to someone else without a second thought.

What right did he have to feel sorry for himself? Honestly, he was probably just trying to play another trick on her.

Olivia Bennett pulled herself free from his grip, lips parted in a cold, determined smile. “Yeah. That’s right.”

She looked him straight in the eye—her gaze colder than a Midwest winter storm. Her words cut much deeper than any blizzard ever could. “I don’t want to see you. I thought I made that clear the other night. But if you didn’t catch it, I’ll say it again.

“You make me sick. I don’t want to see you again, not even for a second.

“I’m not going to chase down the past, but do me a favor—just stay out of my life from now on.”

Daniel Gill felt a sharp, sour taste in the back of his throat. For the first time, he couldn’t bring himself to meet her eyes.

Those clear, sparkling eyes used to be filled with warmth for him—with love, with tenderness, with care…

But now, all of that was gone. What was left was nothing but ice. Disgust. Bitterness.

He looked away, his chest tight with a sting he couldn’t quite swallow.

What was he doing here, anyway? Setting himself up for more pain?

“But I want to see you. Every minute of every day, I want to see you,” he muttered quietly, his last words so soft the breeze snatched them away before Olivia could even hear.

He didn’t expect her to hear, anyway.

Maybe when he had his act together—when he could finally fix everything—he’d tell her all of this properly. Loud and clear.

Trying to pull himself together, Daniel looked at her and asked, “Why aren’t you answering my calls?”
