She frowned, then finally unlocked her phone and set it to block all unknown callers.

On the other side of town, Daniel Gill’s face was as dark as burnt toast, his stormy expression enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine.

He stared at the familiar number he’d tried dialing for the hundredth time, panic clawing at his chest.

It felt like something precious—something he’d always taken for granted—was slipping away, piece by piece.

Just then, his assistant’s call came through, this time about the new project with The Carter Group.

Daniel hadn’t lied to Olivia Bennett about this: the project really was a big deal. Sure, he’d made waves at The Bennett Group, but that was just the beginning.

If he wanted to take over The Bennett Group, this was only the first step.

He just needed to speed things up.

If he didn’t move fast, he really might lose Olivia for good.

With a frustrated sigh, Daniel pinched the bridge of his nose and forced himself to set thoughts of Olivia Bennett aside for now.

Shoving down the anxiety gnawing at his insides, he grabbed his coat and headed out to The Carter Group.

Ethan Carter set down a bowl of freshly washed grapes on the table in front of Olivia Bennett. He glanced at her laptop screen, then at the faint frown on her face.

“Any luck finding someone yet?” he asked.

Now that Olivia had decided to reopen her own studio, she’d wasted no time posting job listings online the minute she got home.

“Talked to someone, but it wasn’t a good fit,” Olivia said, setting her phone aside and focusing back on the screen.

“Take your time. No rush.”

Olivia blinked up at him. “I’m not in a hurry.”

She’d only just posted the openings—there was no need to stress about it. Rome wasn’t built in a day, after all. Just being able to start up the studio again was a win. Everything else could happen in its own time.
