Quentin’s voice was tinged with a bit of confusion as he said, "Madam?"
"Quentin, is Zayn with you?" Lindsey's voice was tense with unconscious anxiety.
Over the phone, Quentin froze for a moment, then put down the things in his hand and stood up. "No, the President’s busy today, but he instructed me to prepare a gift for you."
Quentin looked at his watch and saw that Lindsey’s gift would be there in about five minutes.
However, Lindsey did not hear the second half of his sentence and hurriedly said, "Then can you contact him or someone with him? Anyone will do. I can’t get to him." By the end of that sentence, Lindsey's voice cracked.
‘Can’t be contacted?’ Quentin turned serious and said, "Okay, don't worry. I'll try."
Quentin was still at Denarius. After he hung up the phone, he immediately called Zayn, but just as Lindsey found out earlier, Zayn was not within the coverage area.
Lindsey also called Soren and got the same response. Zayn usually only had Quentin or Soren with him. Now, one did not know where he was and the other could not be reached.
This invariably made Lindsey believe Ann's words.
In the silence of the living room, Lindsey could hear her own heartbeat.
She suddenly reached out and hugged Dezi tightly, then held his hand as usual and tried to control her voice to be as smooth as possible. "It's time to take a bath. Grandma will give you a bath, then you’ll go to bed after, okay?"
Dezi looked at Lindsey for a few seconds and suddenly asked softly, "Mommy, are you going to find Daddy?"
The child's gaze was clear and gentle, with worry and a faint sadness. Lindsey kissed him on the forehead. "Yes, Mommy is going to look for Daddy."
Dezi nodded and turned to take Mrs. Wendy's hand. "Then I'll wait for Daddy and Mommy to come back."
Everyone present knew what Lindsey was going to do. When Dezi and Mrs. Wendy left, all eyes fell on Lindsey once again.
Lindsey did not really like the current scene and pretended to shrug her shoulders in a relaxed manner. "I guess I’ll have to accept this gift today."
No one could persuade her not to go.
Sieben had been trying to call Soren since a while ago and his phone was out of service. Hearing Lindsey's words, she stood up without hesitation. "I'll go with you."
Lindsey raised her hand to stop her. "No, you guys can't follow me. She told me to go alone."
"She told you to go alone so you're going alone?" Arthur looked askance at Lindsey from above and his face was glum.
Everyone next to her looked gloomy, but Lindsey had already made up her mind.
Ann said that she had planted a bomb and Lindsey did not know if it was true or not. As long as there was a tiny chance that it was true, Lindsey could not let others risk their lives with her.
"Let's inform the police first," Yvette suggested in a small voice.
Lindsey had already gotten up and started to put on her jacket. She did not have much time because it would take at least half an hour to get to the funeral home in the western suburbs from Opal Suites.
When she was ready to leave, Arthur pulled Lindsey's arm. "Wait."
Although he was not particularly familiar with Felipe, this person should be reliable since Zayn trusted him. Shaun also did not have time to explain to him in detail.
He came out of the apartment building just in time to see Lindsey's white car driving out from the entrance of the neighborhood. Following closely after Lindsey was Arthur’s exclusive white Maybach. He was in the driver's seat with his earphones seemingly talking to someone
‘This guy doesn’t even know to change to a low-profile car?’ Shaun simply felt helpless. He did not even notice where Sieben was and went straight to the parking lot to drive his own car to try to keep up with these two.
The sky was already dark, but they could not see the moon or stars today, so the weather tomorrow would probably not be nice.
However, the busy city folks were already used to the bright neon lights all around them, so no one really cared that they could not see any stars or a full moon.
Lindsey only felt that she had never driven this fast before. Her car window was slightly lowered, and the cool night breeze scraped her face like a knife.
She ran several red lights along the way, and when she reached an intersection near the western suburbs, Lindsey was about to make a turn, but her phone suddenly rang.
Lindsey steadily held the steering wheel while she answered the call. It was the same unknown caller and an incredibly familiar voice.
"A word of advice...you best get those two clingy guys behind you to stop. Otherwise, I just need to give the order and kaboom! Zayn will be blown up to the sky!"
Lindsey looked at the rearview mirror and saw two cars following behind her.
"You don’t want to live?" Lindsey said patiently. "If you detonate the place, you’ll also die. Is it really worth it?"
"That’s why..." Ann's voice carried a smugness and delight. "You should leave those two behind. Otherwise, Zayn will die with me."
