In the next second, the closed front door suddenly opened from the inside. A huge cake with lit-up candles appeared in front of Lindsey, accompanied by the crowd's singing.
Lindsey subconsciously took a step back, but she stopped in her tracks after seeing the scene in front of her.
Mrs. Wendy, Dezi, Sieben, Shaun, and Yvette were standing at the door with warm smiles on their faces as they sang her a happy birthday song. At the most front was a cart Dezi was pushing that was almost as tall as him with the huge pink cake on it. The cake was decorated with a girl in a dress.
This scene was so warm and dreamy.
Lindsey was frozen in place.
The happy birthday song came to the end. While Lindsey was in a daze, Dezi, who was walking in the front, suddenly shouted in a clear voice, "Happy birthday, Mommy!"
Then, those adults behind him chimed in one after another.
"Happy birthday, Linds!"
"Lindsey, happy birthday!"
Lindsey's chest suddenly overflowed with emotion.
She rubbed the tip of her nose and did not know what to say for a while. After a long time, she said, "Are you guys just trying to make me cry?"
After saying that, she could not help but smile brightly, then raised her hand to wipe the tears at the corner of her eyes.
"Thank you..." She said with a nasal tone, "Ugh...I didn't wanna cry..."
Yvette, who was standing beside Shaun, smiled and said, "Don't cry! You can't cry on your birthday...Lindsey, you haven't made a wish yet. Hurry up and make a wish!"
Her words reminded everyone that the process was not over yet. They hurriedly ushered Lindsey in, then put on the birthday hat that Dezi prepared for the birthday girl. Before the candles burned out, Lindsey closed her eyes and made an earnest wish.
‘I hope that all these people around me will be safe and happy!’ Lindsey said silently in her heart.
The moment she blew out her candles, Lindsey really felt that her wish would come true.
The candlelight dimmed and the lights in the house were switched on. Mrs. Wendy had already set up a feast on the table. Just as they were seated and were about to eat, there was a sudden knock on the door.
Lindsey’s heart suddenly jumped wildly and she was inexplicably a little nervous.
Although she did not want to admit it, the sound of her heartbeat told her that the person she was expecting was...
"Arthur?" After getting up and walking to the door to check the monitor, Lindsey felt disappointed.
She opened the door and put away the disappointment in her eyes. Unexpectedly, Arthur suddenly took out something from behind him and handed it to her.
"Happy birthday, Lindsey." Arthur smiled gently.
He was holding a bouquet of pink roses that still had dewdrops on it, with Baby’s Breath in between them. It looked so romantic and beautiful.
His other hand was holding a gift box that looked very luxurious just by looking at the packaging.
Lindsey was startled and hurriedly took a step back to steady herself.
The people at the dining table were still waiting for Lindsey. In fact, there were quite a few people who thought that the one at the door would be Zayn and did not expect it to be Arthur.
Coincidentally, they were about to have dinner. After a few pleasantries, Shaun and Lindsey invited Arthur to dine with them.
Arthur looked surprised. "Can I have this honor?"
With this look, he looked so naive that she could not bear to refuse him.
Lindsey smiled helplessly and was not so guarded towards him. She said jokingly, "Since you're already here, we can’t possibly ask you to watch us eat, right?"
Arthur seldom spoke at the dining table, but after finding that Lindsey and the others did not follow this etiquette, he followed along and chimed in every now and then. He also praised Mrs. Wendy’s good cooking skills.
In the end, Mrs. Wendy, at her age, still could not help but blush at his compliments.
Yvette whispered to Sieben, "Who could resist this kind of man?!"
Her words were overheard by Shaun, who was sitting next to her. He gave Yvette a sidelong glance and made a mental note about how he should get back at her later.
Yvette was unaware of her precarious situation. After she finished her meal, she completely ignored Shaun and continued talking to Sieben, "OMG, I can’t believe that Arthur’s interested in Lindsey. I didn't even notice it before!"
Sieben grabbed a handful of cherries and stuffed one into her mouth and one to Yvette. She then said incoherently, "You can’t judge a book by its cover."
Yvette was rendered speechless and wanted to say that this idiom did not fit this context, but somehow, she felt that Sieben was too adorable. She froze for a few seconds and began to laugh while holding her stomach.
Sieben was puzzled by Yvette’s laugh and did not know what was wrong with her.
After dinner, everyone had a slice of cake and was relaxed when Arthur suddenly stood up.
