Soren did not know how he fell asleep that night. He only remembered that he was completely dumbfounded after Sieben said that the man earlier was her senior and he was like her older brother.
There was disbelief, but it also made sense.
That person must have been familiar to Sieben, otherwise, she would not have acted like that.
Soren's mood was not much better because of that. On the contrary, he became more alert. "If he’s like your brother, then why didn't he take the initiative to identify himself first?"
"I didn’t remember him before, remember?" Sieben slapped him on the chest. "Even if he told me, I wouldn’t have remembered. This time, he probably did this because he assumed that I still haven't recovered yet."
Soren raised his eyebrows and half-heartedly believed Sieben's words, but that was not what was important now.
"Why is he looking for you? Do you know?" Soren asked in a deep voice.
Sieben pondered for a moment. She put away her nonchalant attitude and had a rare calmness. "Probably because Jared Moeller knows about my existence."
"What do you mean?" Soren was puzzled.
Sieben stretched her arms, then reached out to hug Soren and looked at him seriously, "If I tell you, it’ll drag you down too."
Soren had a cold face. "If you don't tell me, I can find out for myself."
After he said that, Sieben laughed all of a sudden. "Oh right...because Sorie is so powerful..."
Soren smacked her on the butt. "Be serious."
Sieben pouted angrily. Her gaze was distant and somewhat out of focus, probably because she did not know where to start. It was just such a long story.
"You probably know already that I've been out of The Shadow for many years now." It was like she had just made a crack in the cork of an old bottle of wine. After so many years, the alcohol had evaporated, leaving only bitterness, and that bitterness remained in her voice.
"About twelve or thirteen years ago, I can't remember exactly, when I was eight or nine years old, I was the youngest in the group of 'seeds' that they trained. One day, our trainer suddenly gave a task to me, two brothers, and a sister."
Sieben laughed a little self-deprecatingly when she said this. "Although I call them my brothers and sisters, we weren’t close to each other and we rarely interacted with each other. I only had the opportunity to meet them once in a year or two. I haven’t even seen one of their faces before."
Soren was inexplicably pricked by that laugh. He stroked her head like he was coaxing a child and said, "Don’t laugh if you don’t feel like it."
Sieben tapped his nose and sounded cheerful. "How did you know I didn't wanna laugh? How should I reward you for being so smart?"
Sieben blinked. "Yup." After that, she shrugged her shoulders. "I was probably too brilliant, so they made an exception for me to tag along."
As soon as Soren heard that, he knew it was nonsense.
The Shadow was an internationally known organization. Naturally, they had their own set of strict rules for training and talent selection. No matter how outstanding Sieben was or how naturally apt Sieben was at this job, they would never let an eight or nine-year-old carry out a mission alone, especially when the task required several experienced people. With a child, it was too easy to make mistakes.
Sieben's voice sounded normal and calm. "I was still young at the time, but I was indeed the most outstanding among my peers. My trainer even said that I’d become a great leader for the younger generation of ‘Shadows’."
She did not know if this was considered a compliment. At the age when other little girls were still pampered by their parents like little princesses, Sieben had already become a cold and ruthless character.
Sieben also did not seem to be upset with such praise. Her eyes did not fluctuate as she continued, "There were four of us. The oldest brother was only 17 at that time. He was at that reckless age when he thought that he was the best and could single-handedly take out an entire army. So, not to mention taking me along, even when the other two who were about the same age as him went along, he was also very reluctant."
At that time the discussion about this mission went on for a long time, but Sieben no longer remembered any details about the mission. She only recalled that at that time, their trainer was insistent that the four of them must go together.
In the end, one of her brothers pointed at her and said, "If the mission fails because of this little brat, it’ll be a disgrace to our organization."
That was the only time Sieben was ever pointed at and called a brat so bluntly. She did not feel much and only glared at him at the time because she felt that if she were to fight him one on one, it was hard to say whether he would have survived.
