Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 616

Lindsey thought that it was a spam message. She took out her phone to take a look at it, only to find that it was a message from a familiar number that she did not save.

"I forgot to tell you that I took precautions last night. Don’t worry." Lindsey stood at the elevator door and froze for a few seconds, then looked down at the tiny packaged pill in her hand.

Before entering the apartment, Lindsey threw the pill into the bottom of her bag.

The sound of the door opening startled Mrs. Wendy and Dezi. Dezi was wearing pastel-yellow loungewear and looked so adorable.

Hearing the sound of the door opening, he immediately jumped over and hugged Lindsey.

After stroking her son's head, Lindsey put her bag aside, changed her shoes, and sat down. "Were you a good boy today?"

Lindsey had not seen the little one in two days.

Dezi nodded and said with his soft baby voice that simply melted her heart. "Yes."

He seemed so well behaved.

When Mrs. Wendy saw her return, she muttered, "Why are you so late?" She then got up to help Lindsey heat up her portion of dinner that they left for her.

Dezi held Lindsey’s finger and pointed to something in the corner of the sofa. Lindsey already noticed it when she walked in earlier. She just thought that Mrs. Wendy bought a new toy for him, but since he mentioned it, she played along and asked, “What is it?”

The boy struggled to pull the huge box over. Dezi did not look like a boy his age because of his deep expression. "That...man...gave me this toy."

Dezi wanted to say “that uncle”, but he thought of how that man said that he was his brother, so he hesitated for a moment and only said “that man”.

Lindsey understood as soon as she heard it. The smile on her face faded a little. "Mr. Arthur gave you this?"

Dezi pursed his lips and nodded. His expression was serious and helpless. “I didn’t want it...but he gave it to me...”

Lindsey stroked the little guy's cheeks, signaling that it was okay. "Then did he say anything when he gave it to you?"

"He said that it’s a small gift for me...and he hoped that I’ll like it." Dezi looked at Lindsey apprehensively as he was afraid that she would be angry. He hurriedly explained, "I said no...but he gave it to me. Mommy, can I take it?"

It was a child's nature to like toys. Although Dezi already had many toys, this was something new and he still could not help but want it. This was also his favorite model airplane.

Lindsey looked at the large box that occupied half of the sofa. It was a limited edition aircraft carrier model that she wanted to buy for Dezi’s birthday.

This model needed to be put together and was not cheap, but it was nothing to Arthur.

Seeing Dezi’s apprehensive yet excited face, Lindsey laughed and said, “Of course you can, did you thank him?”

Lindsey thought that she would just find a way to return it to Arthur. A child's world should be lively and filled with innocence, without any gloom. Dezi had gone through too much with her.

She could not bear to break his heart. After all, she was not competent enough as a mother.

That night, Lindsey mentioned that Arthur did not have any evidence to prove his relationship with Dezi. The next day, Arthur sent over the said evidence.

Lindsey only took one day off and went to work on time the next day.

News of Jess’ dismissal was sent to Lindsey yesterday. Lindsey also received a message from Quentin last night. He handed Jess over to the police. Besides being an accomplice to drugging Lindsey, Jess also secretly took photos of Lindsey and leaked Lindsey’s personal schedule, which was a violation of privacy. As for the charges and how she would be convicted, they just left it to the police.

Lindsey did not make a big deal at the office about what Jess did. When people asked, Lindsey just said that Jess made a mistake and was fired.

However, Lindsey still felt strange about Lydia.

Yesterday, after being called in for a talk with Shaun, Lydia came back looking glum. When Lindsey saw her, it seemed that Lydia was still upset because she still looked pale and gloomy even though it had been a day since the incident.

When saw Lindsey, she did not have her usual warmth and only greeted her faintly. The two walked past each other. After Lindsey walked past Lydia, she suddenly turned back and called out to her, "Lydia."

Lydia turned back with a puzzled look on her face. "What's wrong?"

Lindsey pursed her lips and smiled faintly. "I just recalled that you recommended Jess to me back then."

Lydia’s smile cracked a little, but she quickly hid it. She lowered her head and tucked a stray hair in front of her forehead behind her ears. She then looked up again and looked completely normal.

She said, "At that time, I saw that Jess' major was related to the project you were handling. She’s from a reputable college, so I recommended her. This girl looked so well-behaved, but I didn't expect she’d do such a thing."
