Even with so much work, Lindsey appeared to be somewhat immersed in it. That was because when she was busy, she would not have time to think about other things.
Work allowed Lindsey to concentrate on something else and not dwell on meaningless things, which was what Lindsey loved most about her job.
She was like a workaholic and would bury herself in work for days. One day, Yvette came to her office and brought in a large bouquet of flowers.
Lindsey was looking at Dezi’s kindergarten assignment. It was a painting. Dezi, who still did not know much about color coordination, used his small tender hands to draw a picture called "home".
The painting was of a tall man with a small child in his arms, and a woman who tilted her head towards them.
Lindsey was still engrossed in the drawing when her office door was pushed open and Yvette placed the large bouquet on Lindsey's desk.
With her thoughts interrupted, Lindsey quickly put away her phone and pretended that nothing happened. “What’s this? Did my brother give you this giant bouquet?”
Yvette snorted and said, “No, I brought it over here, so it’s yours!”
"For me?" Lindsey looked suspicious. It was not a special occasion, so who would send her flowers? It was also such a large bouquet of roses with Baby’s Breath scattered between them. The roses still had dew on them and looked incredibly lush.
Yvette reached out and took out the card on the bouquet, then handed it to Lindsey. “There, open it yourself. When I was at the lobby, I saw the delivery man holding the bouquet and he mentioned that these are for you, so I just took it up on the way here.”
As she said that, Yvette lowered her head to sniff the flowers, then winked at Lindsey. “Who’s this handsome man with good tastes that knows how to win a woman’s heart?”
Lindsey ignored Yvette’s teasing tone and opened the card. There was only one sentence on it, “You deserve all the beauty in this world.”
It was signed with the name “Wadleigh”.
Lindsey saw this name and could not remember anyone she knew who was called Wadleigh. She put the card aside and frowned at the flowers in front of her. "I think it's sent to the wrong person. It shouldn't be for me."
"That can't be." Yvette scratched her head. "I heard them say your name though."
Yvette picked up the card in Lindsey's hand and opened it to take a look. She was indifferent to the quote on it, but when she saw the name signed below, she smiled cheekily.
"Wadleigh...Lindsey, did you forget that there was a Mr. Wadleigh at the cocktail party last time? He looked for you and you both talked for a long time."
Lindsey’s memories from the party were overshadowed by Zayn’s hurtful words that day. When she heard Yvette’s reminder, she suddenly remembered Mitchell Wadleigh. Her brows furrowed tighter. “What? Why would he send me flowers?”
"I don't know." Yvette blinked her large eyes and cooed. "Well, I’ve delivered the flowers, so I'll go up first."
Lindsey waved her hand to indicate that Yvette could do as she pleased, then got lost in thought as she stared at the bouquet.
She thought that Mitchell would not be interested in her, so this bouquet was a little sudden.
After thinking for a while about his intention, Lindsey simply called her assistant into her office.
"Take care of these flowers for me," Lindsey said without raising her head.
He was wearing a casual black down jacket and looked clean-cut and elegant. His smile was also quite soothing to the eye.
Lindsey felt that Mitchell looked cuter like this compared to the way he looked in formal wear at the reception. He looked like a boy-next-door type of guy, so she smiled and said, "Luckily I didn't take it seriously."
When Mitchell saw her smile, he was nervous and asked, "Then please let me take you out for dinner...to make amends."
Lindsey waved her hands casually and said, “There’s no need for that! It’s my luck that I get free flowers and there’s really nothing to make amends to.”
After she said that, she looked at her watch and said, “Don’t worry about it, Mr. Wadleigh. It's almost 5:30 pm and I have to pick up my son from school. I’m in a bit of a rush, so I'll see you next time!"
Mitchell pushed his glasses up a little and looked at her with overflowing warmth in his eyes. “Go ahead then, don’t let your son wait too long.”
Lindsey smiled at him and turned to walk away quickly, leaving Mitchell behind, who watched her disappear and shook his head helplessly.
Mitchell did not notice that not far behind him, the man inside the black Maybach was staring at him with a hostile gaze through the tinted car window.
Lindsey only used picking up her son as an excuse. Even if she went back late, Mrs. Wendy would pick Dezi up and would not make him wait. Lindsey just wanted to get out of the awkward situation as soon as possible.
As expected, when Lindsey got home, Mrs. Wendy had already picked Dezi up from school and he was playing a game with Sieben in the living room. Lindsey rubbed the back of her neck a little tiredly and went over to play with them for a while.
After dinner, Lindsey was in her room finishing up some work for the day when Mrs. Wendy knocked on the door and came in.
