The sadness that was evoked by the past instantly dispersed. Yvette let go of Shaun and said, "You’re really getting more reckless and thick-skinned now, huh?"
Shaun carefully wiped away Yvette’s tears and chuckled without saying anything. He did not care about his image in front of the woman he loved and showed his true self. It would be too tiring otherwise.
The two of them were stuck together and Yvette almost forgot that she came here for business.
Dezi’s kindergarten set up a special group chat for the children’s parents. Usually, when there was any homework or school events, the parents would be notified through this chat group.
Lindsey had been busy for this period. That day, she finally got off work on time, so she went to pick Dezi up from school in the evening.
The little one was not upset by Lindsey's “neglect” during this period and happily jumped on her when he saw her.
"Are you cold?" Lindsey touched his little hand. It was warm, so she put her mind at ease and asked while holding his hands as they walked towards the parking lot. "What did you learn today?"
Dezi pursed his lips and unskillfully signed a heart for Lindsey.
He seldom cried and did not smile much, so when he made such a cute gesture, Lindsey's heart was struck and she could not help but smile. Later, she realized that the kindergarten was preparing the kids for the New Year's Day performance, and this was probably one part of it.
"What else did you learn? Will you show Mommy?" Lindsey looked expectant.
After Dezi made that one move, he quietly blushed and did not want to show her any more moves.
There were still two days left before New Year's Day. Seeing that Dezi was reluctant, Lindsey did not force him because she would see it sooner or later anyway.
After dinner, a message appeared in the kindergarten's parent group chat. “Parents of Class K3: the school's New Year's Day celebration is in 2 days. We hope that all parents can accompany their kids to school to spend this meaningful and fun-filled day together!”
Lindsey glanced at Dezi and found him playing with Sieben. She pursed her lips and put her phone aside, but the calmness on her face earlier was gone.
Lindsey’s new project was still in its preliminary stage. Even if she was free, it was only relative to the previous month.
The kindergarten's New Year's Day celebration was held on New Year's Eve. Lindsey settled all of her work beforehand so that she could take the day off and go to school with Dezi early that morning.
It was still not time for the event, but apparently, every parent was just as enthusiastic about participating in it as she was. Lindsey got there early and found a few other families had already arrived as well.
All around her were happy little families of three and it was a little painful for Lindsey to watch.
Lindsey held Dezi's hand and paused a little at the entrance of the kindergarten.
She could see the fathers carrying their children, while their mothers were whispering or feeding the kids. A few of the fathers even put their kids on their shoulders.
It was just one extra person, but somehow, those families looked so happy together, and watching them made the two of them seem so lonely in comparison.
The wallpaper on the lock screen was a photo of Lindsey and Dezi. She unlocked the screen and the background was still Dezi’s picture.
Lindsey inexplicably thought of Zayn’s previous wallpaper, which was a picture of her and Dezi too. He must have changed it a long time ago.
Her finger unconsciously clicked on the contacts list and scrolled until a certain number that she was so familiar with appeared.
However, it felt that her finger was held back by an invisible thread because she could not bring herself to call that number.
Lindsey could tell by the look in Dezi’s eyes that he missed his father. Dezi wanted his dad to spend time with him and carry him on his shoulders like the other dads.
It was such a simple wish.
A couple was sitting next to Lindsey. The man's gaze frequently landed on Lindsey, so his wife pinched him and said, "What are you looking at? Is she that pretty?!"
At a glance, Lindsey could tell who wore the pants in that relationship. The man hurriedly withdrew his gaze and muttered in a low voice, "She is..."
The woman immediately became exasperated and looked at Lindsey with some malice.
That woman scowled and turned her body sideways to block her husband’s view from Lindsey. She knew better not to make a fuss and whispered to her husband, "Look at you, you can't take your eyes off a pretty young thing, huh? She’s so young yet her kid is already so old. She didn't even bring her husband to attend her kid's school event, so maybe she’s up to something. Have you forgotten why you’re here today?!"
