Shaun’s smile was as warm as a nice spring day. "Dezi, do you want Uncle Shaun to take you back today?"
As he said that, he smiled mysteriously. “I brought you a gift. Do you want it?”
Shaun brought Dezi gifts every now and then, so Dezi was used to it. Which child would not like gifts? His eyes suddenly lit up and his small hand patted his chest excitedly.
Zayn just wanted to beat Shaun up, but in front of his son, he finally held back.
He did not give up and extended his hands as he said, “Dezi, listen to Daddy. Uncle Shaun will send you home another day. Today, Daddy will send you back.”
This was the first time that Zayn picked Dezi up from school after he transferred schools. Zayn deliberately postponed several meetings for this and could not accept that his opportunity was intercepted by Shaun like this.
Moreover, Dezi was his son, so why should he allow his son to be picked up by another man?
Dezi also missed Zayn. He looked at Shaun, then at Zayn, and looked torn.
The atmosphere was tense with both men refusing to give in.
Dezi missed Zayn, but he also wanted Shaun’s gift. He was torn between them for a long time. In the end, he reached over and kissed Shaun’s cheek.
Then, he turned to Zayn and extended his hand. Zayn’s initially stormy face eased up as he carried the little one. This time, Shaun did not make it difficult for him and generously let go. Shaun then tousled Dezi’s hair and said, “You ungrateful little brat...”
Zayn glared at Shaun coldly. “Watch it!”
Shaun glanced at Zayn and said, “Mr. Guggenheim, you’re getting married soon, so shouldn’t you be busy with the wedding? Why are you still such a busybody to care about what I say?”
Zayn was most annoyed by people mentioning his marriage or engagement and immediately shot daggers at Shaun.
However, the two of them were at odds for so long that Shaun was unfazed. "What, am I wrong?"
Shaun ignored Zayn's glum face and leaned into Dezi, pretending to be pitiful. "Dezi’s not coming with me, so I’m upset..."
Little Dezi looked at Shaun and hugged the back of Shaun's head, then gave him another kiss on his forehead.
Shaun was finally satisfied. When he straightened up, he provocatively raised his eyebrows at Zayn and looked incredibly smug. Zayn just kept repeating to himself that he should not lose his temper in front of Dezi, so he kept his hands under control.
After Shaun got into his car, Zayn also carried Dezi back to his parked car. While walking, he asked, "Does Uncle Shaun come to pick you up often?"
Dezi nodded.
"Do you like Uncle Shaun?"
This time, the frequency of the little one’s nods was more cheerful and his eyes were brightly lit.
Zayn asked two questions in a row. In turn, he became so sour that it felt like he drank an entire bottle of vinegar and could not speak.
Probably seeing that his father’s face was not very pleasant, Dezi looked at Zayn, changed his posture to hold the back of Zayn’s head, and slowly leaned in to kiss Zayn’s forehead.
Seeing the shock on Zayn’s face, the little guy looked like he had succeeded in a prank, then his little hand flipped up and down as he signed his most-practiced sentence. "Dezi also likes Daddy very much. I love Mommy and Daddy the most."
Lindsey gently closed the door and pointed to the elevator lobby not far away. She took the lead and Zayn followed wordlessly.
After walking a few steps, Lindsey turned around and looked calm. "Sorry to trouble you today."
"It’s okay." Zayn had also settled down.
Lindsey’s head was lowered, so he could not see her expression and could only see some baby hair on top of her head.
She just nodded. "Well, goodbye then."
Zayn inhaled softly and clenched his fingers, not wanting to leave, but not knowing what reason he had to stay.
Lindsey thought that she said what she had to, so she turned to leave, but Zayn subconsciously grabbed her wrist. Her body stiffened for a moment and her fingertips trembled slightly.
"Linds, what are you doing here?" The untimely voice sounded again, breaking the stagnant atmosphere between the two of them.
Lindsey exerted some force and gently broke away from Zayn's grip. She then smiled at the person walking over. "Brother, why did you suddenly come over? What’s this?"
Shaun glanced at Zayn and raised his eyebrows slightly. "Mr. Guggenheim, we meet again."
After he said that, he turned to Lindsey and smiled unusually brightly. “I missed you and Dezi. Come and help me, it’s gonna fall soon.”
Lindsey quickly went over to help Shaun.
