Yvette stuffed the candies into Sieben's hand and reminded her. "Don’t eat too much at one go, or else, your teeth will rot!"
Sieben did not care and directly unwrapped one, throwing it into her mouth. She really did not listen to a word Yvette just said.
Yvette lost her voice after she was interrupted by Sieben. She could not hide the heartache in her eyes and slowly changed the topic.
They were halfway through their conversation when Zayn came downstairs. His gaze was focused on Lindsey. He put the shawl that was draped across his arm over Lindsey’s shoulders. "Why didn't you wear more?"
Lindsey curled her lips and smiled at him. "I'm not cold."
Zayn then lifted his head and nodded at Shaun and Yvette. He looked at his watch and said to Lindsey, “I need to go to the office and will be back in about two hours. You should stay at home.”
After saying that, he looked at Shaun and Yvette. "If you’re both free today, stay for dinner and keep Lindsey company while I'm gone."
Yvette did not get it, but Shaun understood Zayn's intention and smiled. "What a coincidence! I’ve been wanting to try the food from this famous chef you just hired."
"Mm."
Zayn whispered a few more words to Lindsey. He looked to be in a hurry because he was constantly looking at his watch.
Shaun had also heard the news that several of the Guggenheim Corporation’s branches had been attacked, but Zayn had been too busy to care. It seemed that he could no longer sit on the sidelines.
Lindsey watched him leave. Sieben said incoherently while sucking on her candy, "Bye Uncle Z!"
Yvette did not know that Lindsey tried to sneak out several times before. In fact, Shaun was not sure either because Zayn was not the type of person who would share his private matters with another man.
Even so, Shaun could feel it.
The few of them talked about everything. Most of the time, it was Yvette who spoke.
For the sake of making Lindsey happy, Yvette let out all the liveliness that she had kept aside for a while now.
“Do you know?! A while back, my brother cooperated with one of the young heirs of a company. I’ve only met him twice, but he said he liked me. Then, he came all the way from Baltimore to pursue me. At that time, I was so scared I didn’t dare to go down to the office lobby.
“Then, guess what?! I haven’t gone downstairs yet, but he was holding a large bouquet of roses at the office lobby and even kneeled on one knee in front of our newly joined female staff, shouting my name and proposing to me."
After Yvette said this, she rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders. "I later learned that he has horrible vision, but he didn’t like to wear glasses or contacts, so he can’t even see my face clearly."
The maid brought up a fruit platter at some point. Yvette casually put one in her mouth and fed one to Sieben. When she saw Lindsey laughing because of what she said, she somehow felt a little sense of accomplishment.
"Then what happened?" Lindsey was curious about what happened after.
Yvette quickly swallowed the piece of fruit and continued, “Then, my brother found out. Callum got someone to beat him up and warned him to stay away from me.”
Shaun, who was listening quietly on the side, suddenly asked, "Aren’t they in a collaboration? Is it fine to treat his partner like that?"
Yvette laughed lightly and turned to Shaun. “I also asked him this. Guess what he said?”
Since Sieben had no one to play with at home, they just brought her along.
When they came over, Shaun and Yvette drove separately, but now, they all squeezed into Shaun's car.
Yvette looked a little uncomfortable, but she did not say anything. The Guggenheim bodyguards also followed them from behind in another car.
Before leaving, Shaun purposely gave Zayn a call to inform him where they were going. Zayn pondered over it for a long time before he said, “Take good care of her, I’ll pick her up later.”
The place where Yvette lived was also a well-known fancy neighborhood with luxury villas. Yvette still felt that it was a little too big for her to live alone.
"My brother bought it. He just has too much money to waste. I wanted a small apartment since I’m living alone." Yvette took them to the living room and ordered the maid to serve tea.
Lindsey looked around and her eyes landed on a painting on the wall.
It was Raphael's famous painting "Virgin Mary and Child". Of course, it could not possibly be the real one, but it was a good imitation, probably by the hand of a great master.
Lindsey's gaze was fixed for a long time on the baby Jesus that was held in the arms of the Virgin Mary.
Yvette did not think that the round, chubby child was attractive at all.
However, Lindsey was so captivated by it.
When Yvette saw this, she pulled Lindsey up. "Oh right! I have to attend a reception tomorrow. My brother insists that I go. Lindsey, will you help me pick an outfit?”
