Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 37

"Lindsey, what the hell are you thinking? Mr. Juhl clearly preferred you, so why did you just give up?"

Lydia was disappointed as she looked at the girl in front of her pretending to be confused. She could not figure out what was going on in Lindsey’s head.

"Do you know how rare this opportunity is? If you follow Mr. Juhl, you may have a chance to get promoted!"

Lydia put her hands on her waist and demanded an explanation from Lindsey.

Lindsey could not possibly tell her that Shaun was her elder brother. This was indeed a rare opportunity to anyone else, but it was not necessarily the case for her. If someone found out about the relationship between Lindsey and Shaun in the future, it would not be good for either of them and would even have a great impact on Shaun.

"Lydia, I understand what you’re saying, but I want to take it slow. Alright, I’ll get back to work first!"

Lydia cursed in anger behind her, "You unambitious girl!"

Lindsey stuck out her tongue at Lydia. She did not want to argue with Lydia because she was always nice to her, but at the same time, she did not know how to refuse Lydia's good intentions.

"Look at that! The princess is back! You just take time off whenever you want to like you own the company, huh?"

Just as Lindsey sat down, Fenly’s voice sounded. She was more timely than an alarm.

Lindsey turned to look at Fenly’s arrogant face and asked, "What are you?"

Fenly froze wondering why Lindsey asked this, and replied, "What does it matter to you?"

"Then what does my business have to do with you? You're just like a parrot, chattering all day long."

"Lindsey Juhl, you’re the parrot!"

Lindsey glanced sideways at Fenly and said, "Or perhaps you’re a monkey, jumping up and down all day long."

She did not even face Fenly, but her contempt was obvious and it made Fenly infuriated. Fenly wanted to refute, but she was pulled back by the person next to her.

"Hey, hey, hey! Stop talking nonsense with her. Just wait till you become Mr. Juhl’s trusted assistant, then we’ll see how she cries."

The person was gloating as if they had already seen the day when Fenly was properly nurtured by Shaun.

Lindsey just rolled her eyes. Why did they have to be so dramatic about a boss choosing a mere assistant? Lindsey wondered if her elder brother was aware that his staff thought so highly of him.

When Jenny Lenig got into the office, she asked her assistant to find out about Lindsey.

Even though she “twisted her ankle” in front of Zayn the previous day, she still looked normal and showed up to work in her high heels.

She initially thought of taking a day off, but she wanted to put up a hardworking front by coming into work while she was sick in hopes of gaining Zayn’s sympathy, so she showed up at the office.

The assistant came back with the news and whispered into Jenny’s ear with a gloating tone, "Ms. Lenig, I’ve inquired. Lindsey Juhl went to the office today. She just got out of a morning meeting looking quite upset."

Jenny was wearing a delicate white skirt suit and looked very elegant. Upon hearing the assistant's words, the corners of her lips curled up into a smile.

"She’s still the same person. She thought she could soar up to the sky? Dream on!"

That smile on her face was sinister and destroyed her elegance.

The assistant knew what Jenny wanted to hear and purposely told her what she liked to hear.

"By the way, Ms. Lenig, Mr. Woltman asked to meet this afternoon. He’s a big client. Do you..."

Jenny promptly answered with her unabating smile, "Alright, just accept it. Jane, you’ve been with me for so long, so I’ll just leave Mr. Woltman to you. You’ll be able to sign him on, right?"
