Sieben chased the kids all over the garden to play with her. She was so big that although she still looked like a child to Lindsey, in the eyes of real children, Sieben was already an adult.
Seeing that none of them were willing to play with her, Sieben hung her head and sat down next to Lindsey. She pouted and said, "Lindsey, they won't play with me."
Sieben would only complain to people she really knew and liked. Lindsey looked glum, but she still reached out and touched the back of her head. "That’s because you’re a big kid. Don’t be sad. I’m sure someone is willing to play with you."
Just as Lindsey said that, a voice suddenly sounded, "Hello, can I play with you?"
It was a childish voice that was surprisingly English.
Sieben and Lindsey turned their heads at the same time and saw a little boy with black hair and black eyes standing behind them.
Unlike those blonde-haired children, this boy looked Asian and seemed to be only five or six years old, but his features were so delicate like a porcelain doll. If not for his short hair and boyish clothes, Lindsey almost thought that he was a little girl.
He was holding a small ball in his hands and looked at the both of them who were staring at him. He scrunched his nose and asked, "Do you want to play with me?"
Sieben was obviously willing after trying so hard to get someone to play with her, so the two of them happily played with the small ball.
When Lindsey saw this little boy, she could not take her eyes off of him. When she saw him playing with Sieben and laughing happily, the light in her eyes became more fervent.
Sieben had no sense of time when she was playing. Soon, it was afternoon.
Lindsey did not play with them, but from time to time, she would get someone to bring Sieben and the little boy some food and drink, then she would help them both wipe the sweat off their faces.
"I’m so happy!" Sieben grinned and looked a little silly.
Lindsey picked up a snack and handed it to her, but her eyes were still on the little boy. She asked in a soft voice, "Where's your mom and dad?"
"They're saving people." The little boy said proudly.
Lindsey's eyes became more gentle. "Are they doctors in this hospital?"
"Yes, Daddy is a doctor and Mommy is a nurse. They’re both awesome!"
The boy’s words sounded so cute that Lindsey unconsciously smiled. As she smiled, her eyes turned moist.
Lindsey's eyes were still on the little boy, but the child in front of her picked up the little ball on the ground and waved at them. "I won't be playing anymore. My mommy is looking for me."
After saying that, the tiny figure turned around and pounced on a woman in a nurse's uniform. He shouted with a cheerful voice, "Mommy!"
The boy's mother was not mad at him for playing all day. Instead, she gently took the little boy's hand and leaned down to pick him up. She then bowed her head and said something to him.
Lindsey's gaze followed the mother-son pair, or to be precise, she was just looking at the little boy. She only withdrew her gaze when he was completely out of sight.
"Let's go."
When she reached the stairs, she ran into Zayn who was standing there.
Lindsey smiled. "Why are you here?"
Zayn had actually been standing there for a long time, but he only said, "It's almost dark, so I came down to look for you."
Earlier, he saw Lindsey staring at the smiling boy and his heart surged with unease.
The bathroom light was on.
Zayn's heart was beating frighteningly fast. When he saw the bright light in the bathroom, his heart clenched, but he became tense again.
"Lindsey?" Zayn called out, but there was no response inside.
In the next second, Zayn violently kicked the bathroom door open. The person inside was startled and shrieked.
Zayn’s heart jumped and rushed in to pull the panicked person into his arms. "It's me, Lindsey. It's me! Look at me!"
His voice was serious. Lindsey’s tightly closed eyes finally opened and slowly focused. "Zayn..."
"It's me, Lindsey. It's okay...it's okay..." Zayn hugged Lindsey tightly in his arms.
Lindsey's entire body was shaking violently. Zayn kept stroking her back, trying to calm her down. "It's okay...I'm here…it's okay..."
When Zayn felt the person in his arms gradually calming down, he loosened his grip a little. "It's okay..."
He actually thought that Lindsey was fine and was only in shock, but when his gaze fell on Lindsey's exposed wrist, he suddenly froze.
Zayn lifted Lindsey’s hand and saw a shallow wound with a trace of blood. His eyebrows furrowed. “How did this happen?”
His eyes were fixated on Lindsey's injured wrist, so he did not notice the flicker in Lindsey's eyes. She moved her fingers gently, then shook her head. "I don't know. I might have accidentally scratched it somewhere. It's fine."
However, Zayn still did not feel at ease because of her words. He held Lindsey's other hand and pulled her out of the bathroom.
