After Lindsey had a big cry, she fell back into a deep sleep. Zayn sat on the edge of the bed and only then did he have time to carefully examine Lindsey's face.
They were only separated for a couple of months, but when they saw each other again she seemed different.
After a while, the sky turned dark and there was a soft knock on the door.
Zayn stood up and fixed Lindsey’s blanket. He changed his expression and reverted to his usual demeanor.
He pushed the door open and walked out, carefully closing the door behind him.
"President." Soren followed Zayn out. While walking, he reported, "Liam Wilford's body didn’t float up. We’ve searched the area but there are shark sightings in certain parts, so it would be difficult to salvage."
There were sharks in the waters and Liam was even holding a bloody corpse when he jumped off-board, so he must be dead.
Zayn walked to the corridor window. The humid air blew on his face as he slowly exhaled and signaled to Soren. "Continue."
Soren followed him and stood by the window. It was still raining, which made them feel irritable. "Most of Wilford Corporation’s assets were sold off secretly not long ago. Now, what’s left is just a pretty but empty shell. In actual fact, Wilford Corporation is worth less than half of its original value."
This was out of Zayn's expectation, he retracted his gaze and looked at the window that had a drop of rain rolling down from above. His expression was indeterminate. "Liam Wilford had long been prepared for this?"
"We’re not sure." Soren shook his head. "Also, about Madam's parents...we found the housekeeper named Smith and Liam’s other henchmen. Surprisingly, no one knew where they were sent, but they’re sure that Madam’s parents are still alive.
"This time, there was no way to cover up what Liam Wilford had done. We’ve followed your orders and contacted the police. The police intervened and reached out to Liam Wilford's parents, who are separated and live in different cities. The strange thing is that both of them didn’t seem to care about their son."
The police also contacted Allie Wilford, but she had gone missing.
Liam's parents only had two children, Liam and Allie. Logically speaking, no parents would have such an indifferent attitude if both their children have disappeared and might have been killed.
This was quite surprising, but Zayn was not interested in the relationship between Liam and his parents.
"Before the police took Smith away, our people approached him for a chat. Smith was Liam's father’s subordinate, but he was unwilling to say a word more about their father-son relationship. In the end, he also said that his goal was not to protect Liam Wilford."
This family was really interesting.
Soren still recalled that when he asked about Liam’s relationship with his parents, Smith's face had an odd smile. "Before he turned eighteen, they were still on good terms, but since then..."
Smith knew he could not escape, so he did not struggle. That smile just made Soren feel very uncomfortable. It was not frightening, but looking at it just gave him an indescribable sense of malevolence.
When Soren asked what happened when Liam was eighteen years old, Smith was unwilling to say anything.
"If I tell you now, I'll be dead by tomorrow." Smith stared straight at Soren with gloomy eyes.
"Unless you kill me right now, I won't say anything."
Smith was an important witness. Zayn’s people were not in a convenient position because they were in a foreign land. If they killed Smith, they were afraid that there would be a lot of trouble.
Soren looked at her clear eyes and suddenly thought of something. His originally relaxed gaze abruptly changed.
Sieben was always the most sensitive to his emotions, so she immediately asked, "Sorie, what's wrong?"
He then took hold of Sieben's four fingers with his free hand and said seriously, "Let me take you somewhere."
Smith was sent to the police station and was being interrogated all day. When Soren arrived with Sieben, they were just in the middle of a break.
This was the first time Sieben had gone into the police station since she regained consciousness. Sieben looked left and right, and from time to time, she would pull Soren to ask questions.
The police officer on duty was familiar with Soren. When he saw that it was him, he quickly registered them and let them in.
Soren was walking in the front and Sieben followed him from behind. A few people came up to them. One of them that was holding a cup of coffee looked quite young and was probably new on the job.
When he walked in front of them, he was bumped by the person next to him and the coffee cup fell out of his hand, almost falling to the ground. In the nick of time, no one saw how Sieben did it, but by the time everyone reacted, the cup of coffee was held firmly in her hand.
"Hey, you have to be more careful! It's hot! Hurry up and take it. I can't hold it much longer!" Sieben was trying to lecture him at first, but before she could finish her lecture, she could not bear the heat from the coffee.
Soren hurriedly took the coffee cup from her and stuffed it into that officer's hand. He then held Sieben's hand to help her cool down.
"Better yet? Does it still hurt?"
