When Zayn regained consciousness, the first thing he felt was pain. It was the kind of pain that came from within his bones, which made him think that he was crushed.
‘Lindsey!’
Once Zayn thought of Lindsey, his nerves that were numbed by pain instantly became active. A murmur escaped his lips.
"There’s a response! The patient's will to live is very strong."
"Continue! If you can't save him, I’ll make sure you all die with him!"
The voice that sounded distant to his ears was familiar to Zayn, but he did not even have the strength to open his eyes to look at that person.
‘Who was that? Where am I? How’s Lindsey?’
Zayn's mind was definitely tough. The doctor looked at the gradually rising and falling figures on the monitor and breathed a sigh of relief. He was also shocked by Zayn's condition.
His entire back was bloody and his face was pale without a trace of blood due to excessive blood loss. He was at his last breath when he was brought in, yet he had tenaciously survived until now.
The doctor had been in practice for many years. It was not that he had never seen a patient with strong willpower, but a patient who was injured to this extent and still managed to survive was really rare.
It was late at night when Liam came out of Sophie's room and ran right into Allie who had just come back home.
When Liam looked at Allie's outfit, he frowned and asked, "What have you been doing? Didn't you see what time it is?"
Allie stuck out her tongue and pouted. "Brother, I haven't gone out clubbing in a long time."
"How many times have I told you? Don’t you know what situation we’re in? Why don't you understand?" Liam did not care for her excuses.
"I thought Zayn isn’t a threat anymore?" Allie lowered her head and muttered softly, but the bottom of her eyes was filled with resentment.
Liam wanted to laugh at her. Allie did not listen to a single word he said. "Zayn is only temporarily missing. Do you know what missing means?"
"I know. I’ll be more careful next time." Allie bit her lower lip and looked like she would not repeat the same mistake. She then changed the subject. "Brother, how’s Sophie? Is the surgery done?"
The gloom on Liam's face cleared slightly. He shook his head and did not really want to talk about this. "Not yet. There’s no need for you to care about this. During this period, the company will encounter unprecedented pressure, so shadow me and learn more."
Allie answered obediently.
She returned to her room and took off her black high heels. She casually threw them on the white carpet and did not show an expression.
Her original plan was that by the time Zayn arrived, the surgery would have already begun. If the surgery was unsuccessful, Sophie and Lindsey would have died together. Even if the surgery was successful, Lindsey's heart would have been in Sophie's body by then.
In a fit of rage, Zayn would not let Sophie live.
However, she never thought that both Sophie and Lindsey would be unharmed. Instead, Zayn was seriously injured.
Allie truly underestimated her brother's ruthlessness.
She grunted. Something would happen to Lindsey sooner or later. As for Sophie, that sickly woman was just dragging her brother on for too long, so it was about time Allie got rid of her for Liam’s sake.
The fact that Zayn was injured was a great opportunity for her.
Liam was still not aware of Allie’s thoughts. Sophie was fine, so he finally had time to investigate how Zayn suddenly appeared at the hospital at that time.
Andre was also startled by her reaction and raised both hands to his chest. "Ms. Juhl, it's me."
Lindsey then breathed a sigh of relief. "What are you doing here?"
"The baby’s vitals are a little unstable. Let me take a look," Andre said as he walked towards Lindsey.
Looking at Andre's serious face, Lindsey suddenly thought of something and asked, "Why didn't Sophie and I have the surgery?"
At that time, Liam was obviously adamant for it to be done.
"Ms. Leger was resuscitated." Andre did not look surprised.
Hearing him say that, Lindsey was surprisingly relieved.
"With your physical condition, it wasn't the best time to do the surgery at that time," Andre said while resting his stethoscope on Lindsey's belly.
Lindsey lowered her head with a bitter smile and jerked her head up again. "By the way, at that time I remember there was some noise outside. What happened?"
Andre was not good at lying, but he could not tell Lindsey the truth either, so he just said helplessly, "I'm not sure exactly. It's more appropriate for you to ask Mr. Wilford."
He did not want to tell her and Lindsey did not have a penchant for forcing others, so she just left it at that, but she still felt uneasy.
Andre came every day to help Lindsey do a check-up. Besides him and a few servants, Lindsey did not see anyone else out and about in this villa.
As for Liam, he did not even show up.
