Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 168

The two of them each had their own thoughts during the meal and Shaun could not even bring himself to say anything to comfort her.

Shaun sent Lindsey back to her neighborhood and the two of them waved goodbye. He then watched Lindsey walk into the building before he drove away.

Lindsey stood in the elevator and looked at the increasing numbers. For some reason, her heart was in a panic.

It was not until she got out of the elevator and saw the man leaning against the wall that she realized the source of her panic. However, Lindsey was strangely calm at this moment.

Zayn’s face looked even more gloomy than this afternoon.

Lindsey ignored him and prepared to go into her apartment.

"Where did you go?" Zayn’s voice was deep.

Lindsey did not want to answer him, but Zayn approached her and squeezed her wrist tightly. "I asked, where did you go?"

She looked askance at Zayn. "Do I have to answer to you?"

"Lindsey Juhl!" Zayn's voice suddenly became deeper and he used so much strength that he almost snapped her wrist.

As if she could not feel the pain in her hand, Lindsey gritted her teeth and said, "Who the hell are you to me? What right do you have to ask this question?"

She said as she opened the door, but she was blocked from entering because of Zayn.

It was precisely this side of Zayn that Lindsey hated the most.

"Because you’re my wife!" Zayn shouted in her ear. His voice was cold as he continued, "Why is it that as soon as you leave my sight, the men around you are as eager to pounce on you like dogs in heat? What do you think you are?"

His insinuation was obvious. Lindsey's eyes were red with anger and she was so enraged she could not even speak.

Her chest was heaving violently. After a long time, she gritted her teeth and said, "Well, I’m sorry to have tainted your eyes, Mr. Guggenheim. Then please hurry and sign the divorce papers so I can give you some space."

Their tit-for-tat continued as they both knew too well how to hurt each other's soft spot. However, this did not necessarily make them feel any better.

Zayn suddenly loosened his grip on her wrist and his gloomy face looked like a storm was brewing.

Lindsey did not even glance at him before she went in and slammed the door in his face.

Zayn stood there frozen in place with his gaze lowered. The faint dejection on his face paired with his coldness made it seem like he had been through the vicissitudes of life.

Shaun drove away and not long after, he stopped by the roadside.

He took out his phone and called an unsaved number.

It rang twice before the call got through.

"It's me. Let's work together." Shaun only said this before he hung up.

The neon lights in the distance cut through the darkness and refracted in bizarre fragments, painting the man's face in the night.

......

Lindsey’s long-lost dream visited her again that night. She was trapped in the nightmare and she felt breathless like she was being choked mercilessly.

Her feet stirred. The uncertainty and fear of her fate made her unconsciously grab the quilt beneath her.

Right before she suffocated, she woke up with a jolt.

Cold sweat broke out all over her body and a spasmodic headache ravaged Lindsey's senses. Although she was completely shrouded in darkness, the softness beneath her gave her a sense of security that she was on solid ground.

Lindsey gradually laid back down and did not even bother to wipe off the cold sweat from her face. She just wrapped herself like this in her quilt.

The small bump under the quilt trembled quietly in the night.
