Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3668

Mrs. Foster woke up at dawn. After washing and dressing, she headed straight to her private chapel.

The morning mist still clung to the garden, carrying the faint, soothing scent of plum blossoms. The long-delayed blooms were finally ready to open.

From a distance, she spotted Carson sitting cross-legged on a prayer cushion.

She frowned slightly and turned to Claire. "When did he get here?"

"Middle of the night," Claire whispered.

He had stayed up all night again.

Mrs. Foster approached, taking in his slumped shoulders and utterly defeated posture. She was shocked and heartbroken; she had never seen him look like this.

Carson kept his eyes closed, his voice low. "Mom, you always said sitting in front of the Bodhisattva brings you peace. Why did I sit here all night and feel absolutely nothing?"

Though his mother was devout, and he often kept her company to burn incense, he had never been truly religious. He only did it to spend time with her.

Last night, for the first time, he wanted to trust the Bodhisattva. He prayed for peace. But nothing happened. An entire night passed, and the hollow panic in his chest remained entirely unhealed.

Mrs. Foster knelt beside him. "Do you remember what you asked for?"

Carson opened his eyes, looking straight ahead. "I prayed that I could be with Marina forever."

"But you don't believe in the Bodhisattva," Mrs. Foster said gently. "How can a prayer be sincere without faith? The peace you're looking for isn't something the divine can just hand to you."

Carson lowered his gaze, his eyes empty.

"The peace you want isn't found here," she continued softly. "The Buddha's teachings are about letting go. You are sitting here fighting reality—how could you possibly find peace?"

Carson turned to look at her in shock.

Mrs. Foster looked at him with profound pity. "If you make a mistake, you fix it. The Buddha gives everyone a chance, even ordinary people."

Carson frowned. "She doesn't love me anymore."

It wasn't that he was afraid to chase her again; he was terrified of making her despise him.
