Phoebe looked coy. "Mom, it's just a simple ceremony. I don't need to dress up so grandly!"
Since it was just a change of bride, there was no need to make a massive spectacle of it. Only the immediate members of the Foster and Evert families were invited.
Charlotte caught sight of Marina and deliberately raised her voice. "How can we take it lightly? This is the engagement ceremony for the Foster family's heir. You're going to be the lady of the Foster household!"
"Carson made it very clear. He's correcting a mistake and has finally chosen the best option!"
"Of course you deserve the very best treatment!"
"Mom, please stop," Phoebe murmured softly. "My sister is here. I'll just go try them on, okay?"
With that, she gathered the boxes and headed downstairs to the walk-in closet.
Grandma Evert looked affectionately at Phoebe's retreating figure. "Phoebe has such a good heart. She's always thinking of others."
Charlotte looked triumphant. "It's exactly because of her kind heart that God arranged such a wonderful marriage for her."
Grandma Evert's eyes flickered, and she turned to Charlotte. "Go help Phoebe with the dresses."
Charlotte agreed and followed her daughter into the closet.
Once Charlotte was gone, Grandma Evert waved over Rhiannon, who was sitting in the dining room talking to a maid. "Rhiannon, come here for a second."
Rhiannon stood up and walked over. "Yes, Mom?"
Grandma Evert gestured for her to sit down beside her, looking perfectly amiable. "Let's not have Marina attend tomorrow. With such a sudden change, she must be feeling uncomfortable. Everyone will understand if she doesn't go."
Rhiannon thought about it and agreed. "Alright, I'll talk to Marina."
Grandma Evert nodded in satisfaction. "I'm only thinking of Marina's best interests."
You only truly see who your real family is when disaster strikes.
Rhiannon walked outside to ask Marina what was going on and if she could help.
Seeing Rhiannon leave, Grandma Evert whispered to Charlotte, "I just told Rhiannon not to let Marina come to the engagement party tomorrow."
Charlotte looked displeased. "Why shouldn't she come?"
Her daughter had finally managed to crush Marina under her heel. It was the perfect opportunity. How could the main spectator be absent?
"Marina was the one engaged to Carson before, and now it's Phoebe. If Marina is there, Phoebe will feel awkward," Grandma Evert said flatly. "You shouldn't just focus on showing off. You need to think about Phoebe."
Charlotte finally smiled. "You're right, Mom. You always think of everything."
