Carson leaned in closer, his husky voice dripping with dangerous tension. "I'm a petty man, and I love revenge. If you kiss me right in front of him, I might just be in a good enough mood to let bygones be bygones and stop messing with his work."
Marina furrowed her brow. "Are you threatening me?"
Carson arched a handsome brow. "If that's what you want to call it."
Marina scoffed. "Do you honestly think I care?"
"Of course you care," Carson said, his gaze casually flicking toward the opposite side of the pool before settling back on her with absolute leisure. "Because the author's section on that manga still lists Ashen."
Looking at his strikingly handsome face, Marina had the overwhelming urge to slap him. He didn't deserve to look that good!
Carson tightened his grip on her waist, pulling her flush against him. The ambient lights reflected in his pitch-black eyes, flickering like dying stars.
"My dear half-brother seems to be blurring the lines between fiction and reality. He's actually caught feelings for you. Don't you want to completely crush his hopes?"
He leaned in even closer. "You told him you didn't love me—you really know how to twist the knife in my chest. Well, here's your chance to make it right. Prove to him that you want me."
Marina hesitated, freezing for a split second.
"Hurry up," he urged impatiently.
Steeling her nerves, Marina squeezed her eyes shut and leaned forward. The moment her lips brushed against his, the soft, cool contact made her instinctively hold her breath.
When she just held the pose without moving, Carson let out a low chuckle. "Is this how I kiss you? Are we playing a game of tag?"
Marina's fingers dug into his shoulders. Overflowing with reluctance and sheer frustration, she bit his lip. He let out a low, rumbling groan, and a shiver shot straight down her spine.
The faint scent of sandalwood clinging to him suddenly grew overpowering, and the memory of their passionate make-out session in the Foster family study flashed through her mind.
She kept her eyes shut, clumsily mashing her lips against his in a chaotic, uncoordinated kiss. He didn't respond at all.
