Rhiannon was shaking with anger. She turned to Grandma Evert. "Mom, Dad, you two know the truth better than anyone. We had no idea about the marriage alliance in the beginning."
Both Grandpa and Grandma Evert played deaf and dumb, refusing to say a word.
"You really didn't know?" Aunt Charlotte blurted out. "Back then, Marina had just been dumped by Freddy Greco and was acting like her life was over. You rushed to get her engaged to Carson just to save her reputation. You stole the boyfriend who rightfully belonged to our Phoebe!"
Marina's face went pale, her eyes turning ice-cold as she stared at Aunt Charlotte.
Rhiannon's eyes widened. She was so furious at Charlotte's blatant revisionist history that she couldn't even speak.
When Marina and Freddy broke up, she had indeed fallen into a slump for a while. It just so happened that Grandpa Evert came to Jude and Rhiannon to discuss an alliance with the Foster family. Believing the Fosters were a much better match than the Grecos, and hoping it would pull Marina out of her heartbreak, they agreed.
But they had absolutely no idea it had anything to do with Phoebe!
Desperate, Rhiannon pleaded with Grandpa Evert. "Dad, weren't you the one who came to Jude and me to discuss the engagement? Say something in Marina's defense!"
"My memory isn't what it used to be," Grandpa Evert deflected coldly. "Aren't we here to discuss this device? Stop dragging irrelevant past events into this!"
Her grandparents' blatant favoritism sent a fresh wave of chills down Marina's spine.
Even her parents were forced to swallow their pride and endure the injustice.
After a suffocating silence, Marina suddenly spoke up. "If we find out who actually planted this device, how do you plan to punish them, Grandpa?"
"Are you finally confessing?" Aunt Charlotte sneered.
"I'm merely asking a question," Marina said evenly.
Grandma Evert's face darkened. "Anyone who commits such a malicious and underhanded act against their own family will not be let off easily, of course!"
"Could you be more specific?" Marina pressed. "How exactly will they not be let off easily?"
Grandma Evert frowned and looked at her husband.
Grandpa Evert scowled. "Since Phoebe is the one who suffered, she must be compensated first. Twenty percent of the properties and shares currently under your name will be transferred to Phoebe!"
