She was too upset to let it go and tried calling Mrs. Winters, but no one answered.

When Milanda returned to the office, the client Sylvia had been meeting with had just left. Milanda went into Sylvia's office and told her everything that had happened at the Winters Group, including what Eugene had said.

Sylvia seemed to already have an idea who was behind it. “They didn't actually get physical, did they?” she asked.

“No, they wanted to, but I threatened to call the police and that scared them off!” Milanda said proudly.

“Good. Your own safety always comes first, especially when you're out alone—don't try to take them on yourself,” Sylvia said.

“It's just too bad they got away!” Milanda huffed.

“And what would you have done if you caught them? They could just say it was a misunderstanding, and there wouldn’t be much you could do,” Sylvia replied with a smile. “Alright, don’t be upset. Why don’t you leave early today—you’ve had a rough day.”

“I’m not upset for myself. I’m just furious that they could make things up and slander someone so easily,” Milanda said angrily. “They were even recording video, trying to ruin your reputation!”

Sylvia nodded. “I understand. Go ahead and get back to work.”

“Mr. Winters promised to find out who was really behind this!” Milanda added. “But you should still be careful these next couple of days.”

“I will.”

After Milanda left, Sylvia received a call—it was Jim again.

“Ms. Jarvis, I’m terribly sorry about what happened. Those were two of our clients. They’d been drinking at lunch and got carried away saying things they shouldn’t have. We’ve already decided to stop working with them. I sincerely apologize to both you and Milanda for any distress this caused.”

Jim’s tone was genuinely apologetic, as if he truly felt bad.

Sylvia gave a light laugh. “If it was just a misunderstanding, there’s no need to dwell on it.”

The call connected quickly. The hint of coolness in Sylvia’s eyes vanished, and her voice turned gentle and warm. “Are you free tonight?”

“What’s up?” Gabriel replied evenly. “Inviting me to another movie?”

His tone was calm, with no hint of flirtation, yet Sylvia’s face flushed all the same. She laughed, “Forget the movie—how about coming with me to a brawl? Want to go?”

Gabriel chuckled softly. “Why not just say you need a bodyguard?”

Sylvia raised an eyebrow. “That’s one way of putting it.”

Gabriel replied, “You still haven’t paid me for the last time I played bodyguard.”

Sylvia bit her lip, then said slowly, “Then… I’ll take you to a movie.”

He paused briefly, then answered, “Deal.”
