Connor sounded genuinely apologetic, "Sophia, I'm sorry, was up in the hills early this morning, no signal, didn’t catch your call."
Sophia asked, “Did you see what's happening online?”
Connor let out a surprised "Ah" before saying, “Saw it, really sorry for this big misunderstanding and the trouble it caused you. I didn’t expect things to blow up like this.”
Sophia immediately said, “So, can you please come forward and clarify what actually happened that day? Tell everyone whether I took any money from you or not!”
Connor sheepishly replied, “Look, Sophia, how about this? I’ll issue a statement saying I did give you money, but it was a down payment for designing a ring, not a bribe. This way, your name gets cleared, and I can explain it to my fiancée.”
“No way!” Sophia firmly refused, “That still makes it sound like I took your money. Ms. Yolanda will definitely come after me again, blowing this thing even bigger, and I’ll be left unable to defend myself. Please, just tell the truth, that I didn’t take any money from you!”
“Sophia, aren’t you putting me in a tough spot?” Connor sighed, “If I say that, my fiancée will definitely have a fit, and it might even call off the wedding. Do you really want to be responsible for ruining a marriage? After all the money I’ve spent on her, what about my losses?”
Sophia was resolute, “That’s your problem. I just want the truth.”
“Hey, Sophia, can you hear me? I’m still up in the hills, losing signal again, I’ll call you back!”
With that, Connor hung up.
When Sophia tried calling back, Connor outright rejected her call.
Sophia was furious, wanting to curse out loud!
He seemed so mild-mannered and pleasant when they met, but turned out to be so selfish and deceitful in a crisis!
Estelle's eyes were clear and determined, “Stop arguing with him. He's not going to come forward to help us.”
“What do we do then? We have no surveillance footage, and he’s the only one who knows the truth!” Sophia said.
“We split up. I'll take care of finding Connor in person, and you check on your assistant,” Estelle stood up, ready to leave.
“Alright!” Sophia agreed, reminding her, “Be careful, Connor is a boss; he might have drivers and bodyguards with him.”
“Don’t worry!”
