Sophia suddenly remembered something, "Oh, I bought a scarf for my mentor in B City last time. I forgot to bring it to him when I visited his house. Can we swing by my place to grab it?"
She had been avoiding Jason on her last trip back to J City, too distracted, and even forgot the scarf when she and Estelle went to see her mentor.
"Sure!" Jason drove towards Sophia's apartment.
As they arrived, Sophia hadn't even stepped out of the car when she spotted Robin's car parked downstairs.
She was taken aback, thinking after their conversation at the café today, he wouldn't come looking for her again. Yet, here he was.
Why was he here?
Jason didn't recognize Robin's car, but seeing Sophia's reaction, he got the gist, his expression darkening slightly, "Let's go."
They got out of the car, with Jason holding her hand as they walked upstairs.
Passing by Robin's car, Sophia instinctively tried to pull away, causing Jason's demeanor to instantly cool. He glanced at her briefly, his grip on her hand tightening.
Sophia, however, remained calm, not looking back at the car, pretending not to notice.
Once upstairs and inside, Jason, still holding Sophia's hand, asked in a deep voice, "What were you avoiding just now? Afraid he'd know we're together?"
"No!" Sophia explained, "I was afraid of him misunderstanding us."
Jason's anger flared, his face chillingly cold, "Misunderstanding what? Are you so afraid of him knowing about us? Still hoping to get back with him?"
"That's not what I meant!" Sophia frowned deeply, "I meant, I didn't want him to think it was because of you that we broke up. I didn't want him to..."
Sophia, flustered, suddenly didn't know how to continue.
It was from Robin, "I knew it. You're already together, and it's only been half a month, Sophia. Can you still say our breakup had nothing to do with Jason? From the day I came to your place and saw him emerging from the bathroom with you, you were already together, weren't you? Diana was just a convenient excuse for you to dump me!"
Anger trembled through Sophia's hands holding the phone. She wanted to lash out at Robin, but then felt it pointless.
This time, she didn't even feel the urge to block his number, simply putting down the phone and taking a deep breath before walking out with the scarf.
She came out holding her purse, Jason said nothing, just turned and walked out the door.
Sophia felt a lump in her throat, biting her lip as she followed.
By the time they reached downstairs, Robin's car was gone. Sophia got into the car, noticing Jason's tight profile, silent. She too remained quiet, turning her gaze outside.
The journey was silent, a heavy, suffocating atmosphere filling the car, making Sophia's heart race. She thought about asking him to stop the car a few times but ultimately held back.
