Chapter 1794
Bonnie and Gina both fell silent, staring dumbstruck at Elliott.
Elliott's face was a mask of fury, his voice raspy with anger, "Mom, do you honestly not know how we treated Emily? Do we have any right to question Emily? And also,’ Elliott suppressed the grief welling up inside him, “Charlie's threat to fire me from the branch office was just a warning, do you understand? If you dare to mess with Emily again, I might not have a place in J City anymore. No, our whole family might be driven out of J City!"
His face was ashen, “You better understand Charlie's tactics. By then, it won't just be our family who suffers. My in-laws will be implicated as well"
Bonnie's previous confidence was gone, stuttering, "Why would Charlie go after our family?"
"He doesn't need a reason to act if he’s displeased’ Elliott scoffed.
Gina was now caught in a dilemma. They had already signed the agreement and had a falling out with Emily. It was too late for reconciliation now, and besides, what if seeking peace now meant they had to share the penalty?
Bonnie was at a loss for what to do, "So what do we do now? Are we just going to let your dismissal slide?"
Elliott nodded, "Yes, we let it slide. No one is to contact Emily. If we anger Charlie, we'll all suffer! { can find another job. We have some savings at home. We can manage for a while!"
Elliott suspected that Charlie had learned about that agreernent and wanted Emily to cut ties with them completely.
A mere dismissal was already his last saving grace.
He felt guilty at signing of the agreement in the first place.
Bonnie was still somewhat resentful, but Elliott's words had frightened her.
She was afraid that Charlie would indeed retaliate, and her previous bravado was gone.
“That's it. I need some time to cool off," Elliott looked utterly dejected as he headed to his room. He had worked so hard at his job, only for everything to go down the drain. It was a tough pill to swallow.
Bonnie and Gina stood in the living room for a while, both looking rather grim.
When Emily had some time off in the afternoon, she wanted to check if Kya took a nap at noon with Ms. Simmons. She called, only to find out that Ms.
Simmons hadn't come over at all. Charlie had taken Kya to the company.
Knocking on the door and entering, she saw Kya and Charlie sitting on the carpet, playing with building blocks. Kya was pointing at the castle they had built, her voice childishly innocent, "Daddy lives here, and Mommy lives next door“
Charlie frowned, “No, I want to live with Mommy“
“But what if you fight?" Kya asked with a worried expression.
"We've never fought, and we never will" Charlie assured her.
"Okay!" Kya agreed, nodding, "Then you both have to behave!"
Emily walked over, looking down at them. She asked Charlie, "Aren’t you working?"
Charlie looked up, his smile warm and carefree, "I've been busy all day, just taking a break to play with Kya"
"Mommy" Kya looked up, her face lighting up with a delightful smile.
