Chapter 1719

Charlie's gaze softened involuntarily as he sat on the bed, brushing his hand through Kya’s silky hair. The tenderness in his eyes was almost palpable.

His gaze rested on Kya, unblinking. After a moment, he stood up, closing the storybook on the bedside table and dimming the bedside lamp. Then he left the room.

Ms. Simmons had been waiting in the living room. Seeing Charlie, she stood up, saying, "Mr. James, it's already late. Why don't you stay here?"

"No, thank you. Emily was drunk, so she might have a headache tomorrow. Could you prepare some apple vinegar for her in the morning?" Charlie asked.

Ms. Simmons chuckled, "I'll take good care of Emily, so don't worry"

Charlie pulled out his phone, saying, "Emily's new job is rather demanding. She might need to work overtime sometimes. Please take care of her and Kya. I'll transfer $10,000 to you as an compensation."

Ms. Simmons waved her hands. "Emily pays me well enough. You don't need to give me extra money."

"Please accept it. And dont tell her about it.” Charlie requested, then left. After a few steps, he turned back, “And don't tell her about me bringing her home tonight, either."

“Okay."

As Ms. Simmons watched Charlie leave, she couldn't help but frown. It seemed like Emily and Charlie still had unresolved issues.

Charlie was such a good man, Ms. Simmons really hoped that the two could come together, and Emily wouldn't have to be so tired!

Charlie went downstairs, but didn't immediately start the car. Instead, he pulled out a cigarette, lighting it up.

It was late, and the neighborhood that buzzed with activity during the day had finally fallen silent.

Occasionally, a few birds would flutter from the trees, startled by something, and fly towards the distant lights.

After finishing his cigarette, Charlie dialed a number.

When Emily awoke the next day, Ms. Simmons had already prepared breakfast and was washing Kya’s face.

Kya asked in her adorable voice, "Mommy, when did you come home last night?"

Emily blushed. She didn't even know when she had returned!

After losing her job because of some jerk, she was in a bad mood. On top of that, Magdalen was also down because of Morrison, so they had started drinking more and more. In the end, she blacked out!

This was the first time Emily had drunk so much. Upon waking up, she had a splitting headache, and felt completely disoriented.

Taking the towel from Ms. Simmons, she wiped Kya’s face, apologizing, "I'm sorry, you had to take care of Kya all night"

“It's finet” Ms. Simmons replied with a hearty smile, "Kya was very well-behaved last night, not fussy at all! I made you some apple vinegar. Have some before heading to work."

After washing Kya’s face, Emily carried her to the breakfast table, asking Ms. Simmons, "Did Estelle bring me home yesterday?"
