“I expected you not to choose sides,” I said, my voice full of

disappointment. “I expected a little more understanding from

my brothers. But I guess I am the idiot here.”

Asher’s POV

“I know you will come here to see me, my King. I have been

expecting you,” the Oracle said as soon as I stepped into her

chambers. Her voice was calm, almost unreadable, as if she

already knew how this conversation would go.

Her calmness pissed me off. Sometimes it was indeed annoying to have somebody see right through you.

I crossed my arms, scanning the dimly lit room. The scent of

burning herbs lingered in the air, mixing with something

ancient–something that made my wolf restless.

“I think you misunderstood why I’m here,” I said, keeping my tone even. “I’m not here to apologize for what Violet said, because truthfully, she didn’t lie. You have not foreseen a single danger so far and it is disappointing. But you have a chance to save that now. I need to hear what you have to say about the

flower and my child.”

The Seer studied me carefully before she spoke. “The Queen is a

part of the Night Shade Pack, and the magic of the Celestine

flower exists within her. Your son has inherited some of that

magic already in his mother’s womb. He will frequently feel its

pull, and if the flower is destroyed, that connection may

endanger him:”

Shit. So the connection between this flower and my child was

even deeper than I had imagined.

My jaw tightened. “So you’re telling me that keeping the flower

is the only way to protect him?”

She gave a slow nod.

I exhaled sharply, raking a hand through my hair. “Keeping the

flower means it will always be a target. It attracts too much

attention. I wanted to eliminate that problem at its root.”

“Destroying it will also mean weakening your defenses against

other creatures,” the Seer countered. “You may not see it now,

but the Celestine flower is more than a burden. It is your

strongest shield.”

I clenched my fists. “That’s the council’s word. And I know a lot

of people there don’t agree with my decision. I don’t need them

1. to. But I wish, for once, they could stand in my position and see

what I see. Hard decision must be made. And as the King, I

choose to eliminate threat now instead of worrying about the

future!”

“You come here for my advice and I have given them. What

you do is up to you, my King.”

I took in a deep breath, “Fine. I don’t like the flower but I must

protect my son. So you can go tell the council. They got what

they wanted. The flower will be preserved.””

“You made the right decision, my king.” Then the Seer’s voice

softened. “I can see how much you love your son. But he can

feel the tension between his parents, and that is why Violet’s

body is reacting the way it is. She is overwhelmed. Stressed.

That energy is affecting him. She needs rest.”

I exhaled, feeling a weight settle in my chest. “I know she’s

angry. I’m angry, too. And honestly? I’m exhausted from this

entire mess.””

The Seer gave me a knowing look. “She has every right to feel

how she does, but her emotions are heightened.”

I shot her a glare. “I’m guessing you think her hormones are

part of the issue?”

“Not entirely, but they play a role,” she admitted. “I sense she is

at a breaking point. She needs to feel in control again.”

I scoffed, shaking my head. “She’s strong. She’ll come through

it.”

The Oracle didn’t respond, but something in her gaze told me

she wasn’t convinced. Without another word, I turned on my

heel and left, my thoughts tangled in frustration.

As I stepped outside, the crisp air hit my face. I decided to head
