Chapter126
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread in my chest–I was glad we got
to be the ones to show her this for the first time.
“Of course, but it’s been a long day honey,” I said, tucking a
strand of hair behind her ear. “We should rest first, but
tomorrow, we’ll go wherever you want.”
She pouted for a moment but then grinned. “Promise?”
I chuckled. “Promise.”
Asher linked his pinky with hers, sealing the deal. “We always
keep our promises, don’t we?”
Satisfied, she finally let go of the idea, sprinting ahead as we
entered the penthouse suite.
The food here was different, but I liked it–especially the bagels.
However, it wasn’t really about the food; it was about the quiet
moments, just sitting with Asher, talking about everything and
nothing.
Back at the royal pack, our conversations were always filled

with strategy, responsibilities, and survival. But here, we could
talk about what we liked, about the things that made us happy,
instead of just the things that kept us alive.
“Do we really have to go back to that miserable life?” I joked,
though deep down, the question weighed heavily on my heart.
Peace had always been temporary for us, like something just
out of reach. Would this short escape even be worth it?
Asher exhaled, leaning back in his chair. “It’s not easy, but it
never was supposed to be,” he admitted. “I was born into this
responsibility, and there was never another path for me.”
He paused, his eyes scanning the view outside.
“But I never thought living in such a family mean inheriting so
many of its problems too.”
A small laugh escaped my lips. “Well, thanks for the honesty.”
“Just saying,” he smirked. “But honestly, sometimes I wonder-
what if I wasn’t born an Alpha? What if we were just regular
pack members, traveling the world without having to
constantly look over our shoulders? And none of those sisters
and brothers who all had their own agendas and were always
working on something against us?”

I sighed, picturing it for a brief moment–a life where we weren’t
burdened by power, politics, and war. But it was just a dream.
“If that were the case, you wouldn’t be you,” I pointed out. “And
I wouldn’t change you for anything.”
His expression softened, his fingers brushing over mine. “That’s
the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
I grinned. “I say sweet things all the time.”
We put Mia to bed in the next room before getting ready to
sleep ourselves. As I climbed into bed, Asher pulled me into his
arms, his warmth immediately surrounding me.
“Damn, I missed you,” he murmured against my skin.
I rolled my eyes, laughing. “Control yourself, mister. You
haven’t even taken me on a proper date yet.”
“Wait, so you’re telling me I have to take you out before I can
make love with you?” he teased, pushing me playfully onto the
pillows.
I smirked. “That’s generally how it works.”
He climbed on top of me, pressing soft kisses all over my face.

“Yeah, well, other people follow that rule, not us.”
“Other people have time to follow those rules,” I said, tracing
my fingers along his jaw. “We skipped past all that and went
straight to marriage.”
“Perks of being wolves,” he mused. “No awkward dating phases.
