Blake's POV
At Alpha Kain’s words, all eyes were drawn upon our group. Gazes of doubt, jealousy and high expectations, all kinds of expressions were directed toward us. Along with it were words full of praise and some doubt.
“The Frost Fang Pack? Goodness! Our Lord has gone all out!”
“Indeed, it is a wise decision, My Lord!”
“But can we really entrust this thing to the Frost Fang Pack?”
“As far as I know they have just submitted to our Lord recently.”
“What are you thinking? Of course the Frost Fang Pack needed this very opportunity to prove their worth to our Lord!”
“Indeed! If they fail this, not only will they be punished but their entire pack will bear Alpha Kain’s wrath!”
Behind me, Arthur was already panicking while we sat still keeping a straight face. “What the hell! Is this for real?! Blake, what are we going to do with this?”
“Keep calm, getting their trust is why we came here…” Idris reminded the hysterical Arthur. “Am I right, Lycan King?”
Observing the entire situation I glanced at Alpha Kain and his men who were looking at us with a calm gaze. It was really clear what Alpha Kain’s intention was.
It is not only to test our loyalty and strength, but to use us and show the ‘enemy’ that we are on his side.
And that his side is unbeatable!
As such I waved my hand nonchalantly as I answered, “The Frost Fang Pack shall accept your command, Lord Kain!”
The moment he heard my words a satisfied smile bloomed on Alpha Kain’s face as he responded, “Good good!”
“After this meeting, we shall talk further to discuss the details of the mission!”
With that the meeting continued with Alpha Kain assigning some tasks to the rest of his men. Meanwhile we waited until it all ended before we were summoned to enter Alpha Kain’s office.
“Come and sit down Alpha Sabre,” Alpha Kain sat on his study and beckoned us to sit in front.
He waved his hands and let Elder Gauss hand over some documents containing the information about the Blood Moon Pack.
As I glanced at the contents of the paper, Elder Gauss took the initiative to explain everything.
“Five years ago, our allies started attacking the Blood Moon Pack in order to subdue them and acquire their expertise in poison…”
“Because my brother’s heir was too narrow minded, their resistance immediately caused their downfall. That is why, instead of originally intending to subdue them and let them be under the Lord’s power, we are forced to annihilate them completely upon learning the secrets only known to the Alphas of the pack!”
However, I took note of their words and expressions as this hinted that there was indeed a traitor within the Silver Pack at that time.
All these years we tried to clean up the entire pack to figure out and see who could have been that traitor who allowed enemies to come near us without warning.
However, before we could have a chance to interrogate them all, they chose to commit suicide and have never told us who the mastermind is. That also meant that it was difficult for them to inform about what happened within the pack afterwards.
But hearing about it again now in the enemy’s own mouth, it seems like there really were more people involved in this matter than we really thought.
“Very well… Among this list of leads, do you have any suggestions about where we shall start?” I looked at Alpha Kain and asked.
Alpha Kain leaned back on his chair as he uttered, “Start with Alpha Aira’s pack. If there’s anything suspicious irregardless of whether they are connected to this case or not. I don’t intend to keep the people I already suspect.”
“Alpha Aira…” I acted as if trying to remember who this was, “Ah, that Alpha who had the same vial as mine? My Lord, you seemed so obsessed about her being a traitor. If it isn’t impudent, may you tell me why?”
Alpha Kain’s eyes flashed with a dangerous light as he took a pen from his table and snapped it into pieces while saying, “That woman has never been able to look me in the eye back then…”
“But for some reason at the banquet, she suddenly had the guts to look at me directly. Tell me, what could have been the cause of her sudden change, Alpha Sabre?” At this moment, there was a subtle hostility in his eyes as he looked at me.
At that moment I felt he was testing me, “I see… It seems like I have acted unnecessarily at that moment. I apologize for not seeing your intentions, My Lord.”
Seeing me say these words with a bow, Alpha Kain’s face seemed to have eased up as he answered, “I don’t blame you that time for it was your first time seeing the people around. But remember this, Alpha Sabre, I won't forgive the same fault twice!”
