Chloe's POV
It was cold when the night of the party arrived.
Dressed in black evening gown with subtle accents of gold, I led the team to enter the banquet area.
“Dear guests, may we have your invitation.” Two large-bodied warriors looked at us without any expression and inspected our invitations.
But it was not only them who were scrutinizing our identities at the moment.
I could feel several pairs of eyes gazing at us at the moment, as if they were trying to find anything suspicious.
Our hearts remained calm. There is a reason why we lurked around their pack for days, and that is to observe how our targets behave.
We’ve studied the way they talked, even their peculiar habits. We tried to gather information as much as we could to ensure that we would blend perfectly to the crowd at this moment.
Although a few days of observing was not enough, we hoped that it proved beneficial to our mission from this point forward.
I for instance, maintained the demeanor of the Alpha of the Brook Valley Pack. She was cold blooded yet too ignorant of the world beyond their pack.
There is a sense of authority and superiority whenever she was inside the pack, but whenever the topic or situation mentioned the Alpha of the BloodHound Pack, her eyes would change into that of fawning.
It seems like this Alpha wanted for her to be noticed by the dubbed, strongest Alpha of the weekend at the moment…
After some time, the two warriors looked at each other and finally said, “Greetings, Alpha of the Brook Valley Pack, enjoy the night!”
Then they moved to open the banquet door where we heard the bustling sound of merry-making. We paused momentarily as we were caught off-guard by the caliber of luxury and magnificence beyond the door.
“Let’s go…” Quickly recovering, I calmly beckoned my ‘people’ as we walked inside the party. For starters, we tried to not gather any attention yet and so I raised my hand for a little bit and took a glass of champagne from the server.
Still acting like Alpha Nari of the Brook Valley Pack, I turned to my companions and gave them ‘permission’ to also get a drink.
After that we slowly worked to go at an inconspicuous corner to basically observe the surroundings for a while before doing anything further.
"Wow… This party is luxurious…!" Vanessa, who was disguised as a young aide, leaned towards me and started a conversation by linking our minds.
"I looked down on this pack in the past when I was still an alpha…." Vanessa added while scanning the area with her eyes. "I never knew that they were this rich!"
Raising a brow, I also looked around me. Indeed, although the territory was small, each and every corner of it was screaming richness.
The door of their pack house was inlaid with gold, their floors made of marble, the utensils used to entertain guests were made of gold and crystals. Everything was so sparkly that one look could hurt one's eyes.
“Know that while they were enjoying the glamor and glory this time… it was at the expense of the blood of our pack.” I responded, as I hid the coldness in my heart. “Play by ear, mingle with your ‘peers’ and try to gather as much information as possible.”
With my orders, four of us spreaded out and blended through the crowd surrounded by the officials of the Blood Hound Pack.
While the Brook Valley Pack is but a small pack compared to the Blood Hound Pack, the rest of the guests came over and talked from time to time.
It seems like although Alpha Nari had little experience outside the pack, she made sure to have good relationships with some of the officials in every manner she could get.
However, I never knew that my seemingly carefree comment would bring me a crucial clue.
One of the elders who belong to the Blood Hound Pack somehow joined the conversation with pride in his expression and tone, “You people are wrong in the first place.”
“The Blood Hound Pack no longer needs the Blood Moon Pack’s knowledge of poison… Our Alpha never saw their disappearance as a loss!”
“Why so?” The others asked.
“That is because we have found a person who was just as talented as the former Alpha of the Blood Pack before! It’s none other than the late Alpha Dean’s brother, Elder Gauss!”
“The former Alpha’s Brother? Then that means…” The others were shocked about the revelation.
“Yes indeed. That only means that Blood Hound Pack’s hand already took the sought after poison making skills!”
The revelation was like thunder shocking the core of my being.
To think that Uncle Gauss would really side with the very same people that caused the Blood Moon Pack to fall…
The hatred that I have been forcefully keeping inside was on the verge of leaking out. In the end, I mindlinked Vanessa and the rest to immediately tell the news.
But before we could regroup, the music changed and a loud announcement was heard in the entire banquet hall.
“Behold! The Alpha of the Blood Hound Pack, Alpha Kain!”
