Farewell My Stepfather novel Chapter 92

Chapter92

Paulette got out of the car and waited for the man behind her to catch up before asking, “Are you still hungry?”

Jeremiah didn’t want to refuse, but his body was honest and shook his

head first.

Paulette: “Then I ate.”

She stepped aside and gestured for Jeremiah to open the door. Then she followed behind him, scooped up a piece of cake with the spoon from earlier, and put it in her mouth, letting out a satisfied sigh.

Jeremiah’s gaze lingered on that spoon for two seconds, his throat bobbing.

“What’s wrong?”

Paulette didn’t notice anything unusual, she just chewed and swallowed that piece of cake, “Do you… still want to eat?”

She handed over the rest of the cake again.

Jeremiah couldn’t help but shake his head, saying, “No need, you go ahead and eat.”

Paulette nodded and went back to finish the rest of the cake.

She walked straight to her room as she entered, and a deep male voice behind her called out, “Paulette, wait a minute.”

Paulette turned back in confusion, “Is there something else?”

“You…”

Jeremiah’s face didn’t look right, and his beautiful eyes didn’t meet hers for the first time. In a hoarse voice, he said, “Tell me your thoughts on marriage first, I’ll get ready.”

Hey…

Suddenly hearing him ask like that, Paulette didn’t know how to respond.

When I was young, I used to have a lot of fantasies about weddings, like in TV shows, so romantic, like in fairy tales, so dreamy, or like in dramas,

so solemn and sacred…

But when the day came, I found my mind completely blank, and even felt

like it didn’t matter.

“I, I don’t have any thoughts.”

Paulette pursed her lips and said, “Go ahead with your idea, I’m fine with

it.”

She thought, the Swanson family was a big family, it must have been

quite complicated according to the family rules, so she just played the role of a tool.

Jeremiah didn’t hesitate, nodded and said, “Sure, just let me know if you think of anything.”

Paulette said, “Well, goodnight.”

“Good night.”

The words have been said, Paulette thought about it, took a shower, and sent a message to Maxine. Then she booked a new number online.

The two of them were fooling around as they walked towards the hotel. Jessica reminded, “The car isn’t locked.”

“Can’t lose it again…”

Paulette muttered to herself and pulled out the car keys from her bag, then pressed a button.

In the moment she turned around, she was stopped in her tracks by the intense gaze of a man not far away, and instinctively shouted, “Nelson…”

Jessica then looked over and it was really Nelson.

Nelson was wearing an all–black suit, looking intimidating and

oppressive. He walked up to Paulette and asked in a cold voice, “Where did the car come from?”

The weather was nice today, with the gentle sunlight filtering through the dry branches and falling on Paulette’s fair cheeks. Her eyelashes fluttered slightly before she said, “Friends.”

Nelson never gave up, “What friends?”

He squinted his eyes and said, “How come I didn’t know you had friends in Crireton?”

“You…”

Jessica couldn’t take it anymore and wanted to speak, but Paulette grabbed her arm and silently shook her head at Jessica. Then she turned to face Nelson and said, “Boyfriend.”

“Nelson, I was in a relationship.”

Nelson’s pupils shrank in disbelief, and he said, “Say that again?”
