At nine o’clock, Jalen arrived at the Halton’s Residence.

It was rare for him to come back early. He was about to have a good rest, but somehow, he felt unnerved, as if something bad was going to happen.

He took out his phone and wanted to call Elaina, but he soon remembered that Graham said there was no signal in the village where Elaina stayed. He couldn’t reach her.

He got up from the bed and walked to the balcony, feeling inexplicably agitated.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Jalen quickly returned to his room and picked up the phone.

“Mr. Halton, I just received the news that a massive earthquake had struck Cumberland County. The Greene Village where Ms. Gainsford stays is in the center of the earthquake and has completely lost contact with the outside.” Graham’s voice was urgent.

An earthquake?

Jalen’s face turned pale. He forced himself to calm down. “Arrange a helicopter, and prepare medicine and emergency supplies. I will fly straight over.”

“Okay.”

Jalen hung up the phone. His heart was still beating violently. He finally knew where the inexplicable uneasiness came from.

At the airport, Jalen boarded the helicopter.

Seeing Graham want to follow, Jalen said, “You don’t have to go. Go to New Jersey and prepare some first aid supplies. Take the satellite phone and wait for my call.”

“Mr. Halton, but your safety…”

“That’s the order.” Jalen did not give him the chance to speak. “Don’t say anything to my grandfather.”

Then Jalen informed the pilot to take off. Graham watched the helicopter fly far away. He could only pray that both Jalen and Elaina would return safely.

Although they all knew that it was impossible to find all the people, they had to try.

Miguel nodded, but then shook his head. “Dr. Gainsford, you stay here. I’ll get someone to go to the clinic to get the supplies you need. We can’t let anything happen to you.”

“I must go,” Elaina said, “There is limited manpower. Leave the women to take care of the children and the elderly. The rest all go to search.

“But look out for the danger! There can be aftershocks at any time. You must put your own safety first.”

Miguel watched her back disappear into the dark night. His eyes turned red. “Dr. Gainsford is a good person.”
