Chapter 156
Jalen raised his injured arm and said to Elaina, “There are Grandpa’s men in my place. Grandpa will be worried if he knows this. He is old, and I don’t want to worry about him.”
This explanation made Elaina feel guilty. “Well, you don’t have to move out…”
“It doesn’t matter. I can live in the Halton’s Residence though it is a bit far from my company.” Jalen smiled to relax Elaina.
Besides Nitzan, Jalen didn’t go back to the Halton’s Residence for another reason.
Jalen felt that someone tailed them back in the supermarket, but nothing happened in the end. Therefore, he was worried and decided to stay at Kemp Apartment for one night. If something happened, he could give Elaina instant help.
Of course, Jalen didn’t tell Elaina his concern.
Elaina checked her watch and found that it was almost ten o’clock in the evening. Graham hadn’t appeared yet, so Elaina said, “Don’t wait here. Do you like going to my place?”
“Well… May I?” Jalen hesitated. He felt both happy and restless.
“Come on! You got injured for the sake of me. Although I don’t want to get entangled with you, I am
not that heartless,” Speaking, Elaina led the way.
With a bitter smile, Jalen followed behind Elaina. “You are quite candid. You don’t give me any
hope.”
“I am just telling the truth,” Elaina said.
In the elevator, silence fell. Jalen started the conversation by saying, “Does Captain Russett have
any updates about those suspects?”
“Yes. He said that he had arrested three suspects and would catch the rest soon,” Elaina replied. Sergio’s efficiency did impress Elaina.
The elevator stopped, so Elaina and Jalen walked out together and headed for Elaina’s apartment.
“If Alisha turns out to be the culprit, what will you do?” Jalen asked.
This question shocked Elaina, who was opening the door. Elaina turned to look at Jalen behind her. “Do you want me to spare her?”
“No.” Jalen shook his head in fear that Elaina would misunderstand him.
Jalen did not know whether to laugh or cry. The others will want to beat her up if they hear her
now, Jalen thought.
“I heard from Grandpa that you had lived with your grandpa in the countryside. When did you learn
those skills?” Jalen was curious.
Elaina shot one glance at Jalen and looked hesitant.
Instantly, Jalen said, “You may not answer this question if you don’t want to. I was just asking. I
don’t mean to inquire about your privacy.”
Jalen wanted to know more about Elaina in every aspect.
“There’s nothing I can’t say. I just don’t know where to start.” Elaina leaned against the sofa and
was lost in her thoughts.
