Gabriel’s POV
Adrian stood at the end of the living room, his face twisted in horror, his eyes wide at the sight before him.
“What the fuck?” his voice cracked, rage and disbelief dripping from every word. “Dad…”
Shame washed over me, heavy and choking. I scrambled up instantly, rising from Clairessa’s body.
She gasped, pulling herself back, her hands shaking as she reached for her clothes.
My instinct took over and I moved in front of her, shielding her from Adrian’s view.
“Adrian… please.” I lifted my hands, desperate to calm him. “Calm down.”
“Calm down?” He laughed bitterly, the sound broken, unhinged. “Are you fucking serious right now?”
I swallowed hard, nodding once.
My throat felt too tight to speak because he was right. Every word, every accusation and I had no defense.
This was a disaster. I'd never planned for him to find out like this. My mind raced, had he followed me? How did he get past security? None of it mattered now. What mattered was stopping this fire before it burned us all down.
Adrian’s voice rose, his hands shaking at his sides. “For weeks I suspected something was going on between you two. And when I told you what Mom said, you shut it down. You made me believe I was crazy! And then tonight—when Clairessa ran out after I proposed—you chased after her. Like some desperate, lovesick teenager.”
He dragged in a deep breath, fury shaking through him. “So I followed. I knew something was off. And what do I find? She lives here. You visit her. Regularly.”
I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. My silence said everything. He was right. And we both knew it.
He scoffed angrily, before spitting the truth. “You want to know how I got in? I paid ten fucking grand to the security. And they let me in. So tell me, Dad, how the hell am I supposed to calm down when I just walked in on you fucking my fiancée?”
“Adrian,” I finally forced out, my voice low, ragged. “I know this looks bad. But Clairessa is not your fiancée. And you know it.”
“Yes, she is!” he snapped, pointing over my shoulder at Clairessa who stood behind me. “I proposed tonight. She said yes. She’s wearing my ring.”
He took a step closer, but I stood my ground, blocking him from getting anywhere near her. His eyes burned like fire, and I didn’t trust what he’d do if he reached her.
“She never said yes,” I shot back, firmer now. “You shoved that ring on her finger, Adrian. We all saw it.”
From behind me, Clairessa’s voice broke through, shaky but steady. “Adrian… I’m sorry you had to find out this way. But Gabriel’s right. You sprang that proposal on me. Especially after I told you, more than once, that we were never getting back together.”
Her words only poured fuel on him. Adrian’s jaw clenched, his anger spilling over. “So that’s it? You turned me down because you’ve been fucking my father all this time?!”
Clairessa’s voice trembled. “I admit… I’ve been seeing your dad. But me saying no to you isn’t just about this. We were broken, Adrian. After that night I caught you with Nicole, there was no coming back.”
His fury exploded. “You fucking hypocrite!” he roared.
His hands shook as he pointed at her. “All this time you’ve held one mistake over my head, and now you use it to justify selling yourself like a bloody whore to my dad?”
The guilt and shame I felt earlier gave way to a rising anger. I stepped forward, shoving him back just enough, my voice a warning growl. “Adrian, I know you’re hurt. Say whatever the hell you want to me. But don’t you ever call her that.”
We stood chest to chest, his breath hot with rage, his eyes blazing. He was my son, but in that moment, he was nothing but an enemy testing every limit I had.
“And if I do?” he spat. “What then? You’ll hit me? For her?”
He jabbed his finger toward Clairessa like she was filth. “You’d fight your own son for a woman cheap enough to sleep with the father of the man she once dated?”
My fists clenched, my body shook with the need to defend her, every instinct in me demanding I put him down for what he just said. I could feel Clairessa clutching at my arm, silently pleading with me not to lose control. But every word out of his mouth was tearing into her, tearing into me.
“Adrian…” I forced through gritted teeth. “Don’t. That’s enough.”
“No!” he roared, his voice cracking with rage. “It’s not enough! You both are the worst kind of people. Dad, you knew how much I loved her. You knew I made one mistake and I’ve been trying to atone for it. But you.” he stabbed his finger at my chest. “you never let me.”
“Adrian, I’m sorry,” Clairessa pleaded softly. “None of this was planned—”
“Liar!” he cut her off, spitting the word like venom.
