As soon as the news exploded online, both universities made their positions clear—they announced, in total agreement, that they had never accepted Sylvia.
The more prestigious (and expensive) school even went further, stating outright that the acceptance email was a forgery.
The internet didn’t need to say more. The conclusion was obvious.
Sylvia had faked her acceptance letter, just to brag.
Staring at the hundreds of hateful DMs flooding her phone, Sylvia’s hands shook uncontrollably.
She’d been so careful, double-checking every detail.
The email from that elite school even included specifics about the interview—how could it have been a fake?
Then it hit her: Someone else knew those details. Rupert.
He’d already gone so far as to have his bodyguard injure her hand to keep her from leaving the country. And now, he’d destroyed her academic future, too.
This whole thing was a trap, set just for her.
Her phone slipped from her trembling hands and hit the floor with a deafening clatter. The taste of blood rose in her throat.
At that moment, the hospital room door swung open.
Seeing Rupert walk in with Chris, Sylvia immediately broke out in violent shudders.
“What the hell is he doing here?”
“Mom! Make him leave!”
Naomi, terrified that Sylvia would hurt herself even more, rushed over to hug her. But Naomi was no match for Sylvia’s panic-fueled strength.
Rupert quickly stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Sylvia. “Calm down.”
“Calm down? Who are you to tell me that? Everything is your fault! Don’t touch me!”
Instead of stopping, Sylvia thrashed even harder in Rupert’s arms, ignoring the pain from her injuries.
Rupert held onto her hands, his voice tight with restraint. “Do you really not trust me at all?”
Sylvia let out a bitter laugh, wild-eyed and disheveled, glaring at him like he was a ghost.
“Trust? Why the hell would I ever trust you? I couldn’t hate you more if I tried!”
