“The cameras are never turned off,” she stated flatly.
Adrian just shrugged, a playful glint in his fox-like eyes.
Sensing something was wrong, Selene pulled out her phone and opened the custom app she’d designed for the company. With a single tap, she initiated a lockdown sequence, securing all unclosed exits in the building. Then she pressed the button for the third floor.
The security room was on three. Adrian accompanied her inside, where the on-duty guard looked up, startled. He stared at Selene’s face for a moment before recognition dawned. “Ms. Thompson? You’re still here.”
The guards had never met her in person, but they had been trained to recognize the company’s leadership.
“Have you noticed anything unusual?” Selene asked.
The guards exchanged confused glances. “No.”
“Everything’s been normal.”
Selene’s eyes scanned the wall of monitors. “Excuse me,” she said to one of the guards, gesturing to his chair.
He quickly stood up, and Selene sat down. She expertly pulled up the feed for elevator #3, the one they had just used. Fast-forwarding through the footage, she saw that the elevator had remained empty the entire time.
“We were in that elevator at this exact time,” Adrian said quietly from behind her.
Yet, the recorded footage showed an empty car.
“What’s going on?” one of the guards asked. “Ms. Thompson, the feed for your private VIP elevator is encrypted. We don’t have access to that footage, but you can pull it up yourself if you need to.”
