Leo’s eyelid twitched. Sitting low in his wheelchair, he was far enough from the hospital bed that he could make out Adrian crouched beneath it, their eyes meeting in the dim space.

Adrian, sprawled on the floor, grinned up at Leo and gave a little wave.

Leo’s face remained impassive—utterly unruffled, as if nothing on earth could disturb his composure. Even if he were to discover a naked man hiding under the bed, he’d still look as calm as ever.

He stared at Adrian in silence. Adrian fished out his phone.

A moment later, Leo’s own phone buzzed with a new message.

“Don’t get the wrong idea, Leo. I was already on Selene’s bed before you came in. I just figured it’d be a bit much for you to handle, so I hid.”

“Guess I’m just quicker on my feet than you.”

“Are you angry, Leo?”

“It’s just a little fun between Selene and me! Not something older folks usually get, so no hard feelings.”

Leo shut his eyes, holding his breath against the cloying scent of herbal tea that filled the room.

“Hm?” Altair glanced curiously at the unmoving Leo.

Just a short while ago, Leo had been so reluctant to leave Selene’s side. Now, it seemed he was the one who didn’t want to go.

“Professor, are you alright?” Selene asked gently, noticing the pallor in Leo’s face.

Leo didn’t mince words. His tone was cold, commanding, “Don’t disturb Selene—she needs her rest…”

He didn’t get to finish before a little girl’s bright, innocent voice rang out behind him:

“Mommy!”

Daph came running in, clutching a thermos. Spotting Leo, she quickly lowered her voice and greeted him politely:
