Liam shot Gemma a slightly embarrassed look. His wife really had a knack for poking at Leo’s sore spots, over and over.
He quickly tried to smooth things over. “Altair and Damien both went through the fire—they were terrified. Altair’s still a kid, bumped his head and can’t explain himself clearly, but thank God he’s alright. I believe, knowing Damien, there’s no way he’d ever hurt Altair on purpose.”
Liam’s voice took on a gentle, brotherly tone. “Leo, the real culprit behind the school auditorium fire has already been caught. You’ve punished my grandson and Harrison, even your sister-in-law’s knelt here with them. As your brother, I just hope you can let this go, for the family’s sake…”
But before Liam could finish, Leo’s voice cut through, cold and sharp.
“Damien, I already gave you a chance to come clean.”
Damien’s small fingers twisted into the cushion beneath his knees.
“I swear, I didn’t hurt Altair! The bump on his head wasn’t from me!”
Gemma sprang up to face Leo head-on. “Leo! Stop blaming Damien! You’re letting Altair accuse him of things he didn’t do—shame on you!”
Harrison spoke up, too. “I believe my son. He wouldn’t do something like that.”
Seated in his wheelchair, Leo said nothing, his face unreadable, not a flicker of emotion crossing his features.
His assistant pulled out an iPad and held it up for everyone to see.
The footage was shot from Altair’s smartwatch.
Damien’s heart thudded painfully as he realized what was happening. He never expected Altair’s watch to have a recording function!
But because it was a smartwatch, the angle was limited.
The video showed a shadowy figure moving behind Altair. Then—a loud thud.
Altair collapsed, and the camera angle shifted as he hit the ground.
Damien’s heart raced so hard he thought it might burst.
He blurted out, desperate, “That doesn’t prove anything!”
Then the video showed Altair’s body being dragged away, the watch catching the whole scene.
Kneeling on the cushion, Damien’s voice died in his throat.
